🏀 A Hall of Fame Legacy That Reaches Far Beyond Basketball

Congratulations to Mike D'Antoni on his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026!

For basketball fans, Coach D’Antoni needs little introduction. His impact on the game has been felt around the world.

But here in East Harris County, we know another part of Mike and Laurel D’Antoni’s legacy.

They believe in people. They believe in community. And they have believed in the work of the EHCEC - East Harris County Empowerment Council.

During this historic moment for their family, Mike and Laurel chose to shine a light on organizations they care about in the official Hall of Fame Enshrinement program. We were incredibly honored to see East Harris County Empowerment Council among them.

That recognition means a great deal to us because their commitment to EHCEC and the people we serve is not simply about having their names associated with our organization. It reflects a genuine belief in what is possible for East Harris County and the people who call this community home.

Mike, congratulations on an extraordinary and well-deserved honor.

And Mike and Laurel, thank you for continuing to use your platform, generosity, and influence to make a difference beyond the game.

East Harris County is better because people like you believe in its potential.

On behalf of the residents of East Harris County, thank you for believing in our community and investing in our families through Day of Dignity.

Because of your generosity, more than 600 families received backpacks, school supplies, hygiene kits, winter coats, fresh produce, hot meals, and other essential resources to help them prepare for the school year.

More importantly, you reminded hundreds of families that they matter.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, and member of the Islamic Relief USA team who gave their time, resources, and heart to make this day possible. Your commitment to serving others with dignity and compassion made a lasting impact across East Harris County.

Yesterday, East Harris County showed what is possible when community, compassion, and partnership come together.

Through Day of Dignity, more than 600 families received critical back-to-school and household support, including backpacks, school kits, hygiene packages, coats, winterization kits, fresh produce, and Chick-fil-A meals with drinks. The event represented a $40,000+ investment in East Harris County and also included a DJ, face painting, and snow cones for families to enjoy.

This was more than a distribution. It was a demonstration of dignity, care, and what can happen when trusted partners respond to the needs of our neighbors.

We are deeply grateful to Islamic Relief USA, Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, every volunteer, donor, and community partner who helped make this day possible.

Together, we served families, distributed thousands of essential items, and strengthened East Harris County.

One community. One purpose. Endless impact.

What an incredible day!

Our community was selected as 1 of only 20 communities across the country to host Islamic Relief USA’s Day of Dignity, and thanks to all of you, this was our third year hosting the event and our biggest and best one yet.

To every volunteer, partner, supporter, and neighbor who worked behind the scenes or showed up to serve, thank you. Your generosity, compassion, and commitment helped us deliver a first-class experience for our community. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.

East Harris County continues to prove that when we come together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. Our volunteers are simply the best in Texas, and today was another reminder that our community is second to none.

It is an honor to serve as your opportunity partner, and we can’t wait to welcome you back for more events, programs, and opportunities in the months ahead.
