This is a great read to help you understand the significance of receiving Holy Communion!
✝️ Most Catholics receive Holy Communion, return to their pew, and within minutes their mind is already somewhere else. But what if we really understood what just happened?... ⤵️
You walked forward, received the Host, and said, “Amen.” But you did not just receive something holy. You received Jesus Christ.
The Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever.” John 6:51
When you receive Holy Communion worthily, your union with Jesus becomes deeper. You may feel nothing. No tears. No chills. No sudden peace. But that does not mean nothing happened.
Grace does not depend on how emotional you feel.
Holy Communion strengthens your life with God, deepens your love for Him, wipes away venial sins, and helps protect you from falling into mortal sin.
But there is something serious we cannot ignore. If you know you are in mortal sin, you must go to Confession before receiving Holy Communion. The Eucharist is not meant to forgive mortal sin. That is why Christ gave us the Sacrament of Confession.
St. Paul gives a serious warning about receiving Holy Communion unworthily: ‘Whoever… eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord’ (1 Corinthians 11:27).”
That should make us think.
Because what looks like ordinary bread is not ordinary bread. It is Jesus.
St. Paul writes, “Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10:17
Holy Communion brings you closer to Christ and also draws you more deeply into His Church. But Jesus did not give Himself to you so you could walk out of Mass unchanged.
He strengthens you to forgive when someone hurts you, fight temptation when you feel weak, love when it costs you something, and stay faithful when walking away would be easier.
That is why the moments after Communion matter so much.
Do not rush through them.
Talk to Jesus.
Thank Him.
Tell Him what hurts.
Tell Him what you are afraid of.
Give Him the sin you keep fighting.
Give Him the person you are struggling to forgive.
Ask Him to change your heart.
Because you have just received the same Jesus who healed the sick, forgave sinners, carried the Cross, died for you, and rose from the dead.
And now He is asking you not to leave Mass the same way you came in. The Host touches your lips, but Jesus wants your whole life.
💬 Do you think we have become too casual about receiving Holy Communion? Why or why not?
