What began in 1994 as a way to spotlight premier developer golf courses and amenities across West Houston has grown into one of WHA’s most anticipated annual traditions. By the late ’90s, the tournament was drawing large crowds and strong public interest, with local elected officials joining as MC, showcasing the close collaboration between public and private leadership.

As the world navigated changes throughout 2020, so did WHA. From that shift came a fresh new tradition: the Rising Leaders Topgolf Tournament!

Launched in 2021 by WHA’s Rising Leaders, the tournament now brings together a vibrant mix of professionals from across the region for a day of connection, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to improving quality of life in Greater West Houston. ⛳

Green infrastructure is often seen as an environmental benefit, but it is increasingly serving as a tool for economic development, placemaking, and community engagement.

The City of Houston's Green Infrastructure Tax Abatement Program is designed to encourage projects that improve stormwater management, reduce flooding impacts, enhance water quality, and create more resilient communities. By aligning public policy with infrastructure performance, the program creates opportunities for developers and property owners to invest in solutions that deliver environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Groundwater management is plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and long-term resiliency of our region’s water supply.

Harris Galveston Subsidence District’s 2025 Annual Groundwater Report provides important data on groundwater use, aquifer conditions, climate, and measured subsidence across the region. Paired with the updated interactive subsidence map showing average annual subsidence rates from 2021 to 2025, this information helps local leaders and practitioners better understand how reduced reliance on groundwater is helping mitigate subsidence. Understanding and managing subsidence supports stronger infrastructure, better drainage outcomes, and more resilient communities across the Greater West Houston region and beyond.

The Fort Bend Parkway Extension reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen mobility and regional connectivity as Fort Bend County continues to grow. Segment B3 will extend the corridor from its current terminus near Sienna to the levee east of the Brazos River, while Segment B4 will continue the connection westward to FM 2759. Together, these improvements will create a major new east-west transportation link, helping to reduce congestion, improve access between growing communities, and support the region's long-term mobility vision, including future extensions toward FM 762 and SH 36.

This morning, our Rising Leaders visited Lilypad Park and toured One Bridgeland Green to learn how parks, open spaces, and sustainable infrastructure contribute to quality planned development.

Thoughtfully designed parks, commercial spaces, and infrastructure create places for recreation, strengthen community identity, support environmental goals, and enhance quality of life.

Thank you Howard Hughes Communities for hosting us, and to Brian Gates (Howard Hughes), Katie Carner (ABHR), and Nelly Fuentes (SWA Group) for sharing their expertise and giving our group a behind-the-scenes look at the vision, planning, and partnerships it takes to make great communities possible.

As Houston continues to grow, the opportunity to shape a stronger, more connected future begins with collaborative and thoughtful planning.

Housing affordability, infrastructure capacity, drainage, mobility, and long-term maintenance are all connected and necessary. Without thoughtful long-term planning, the impacts can emerge later as traffic congestion, flood risk, costly infrastructure repairs, and fewer overall housing options.

Imagine a beautiful landscape element that also serves a critical environmental function💡

Rain gardens help to sustainably manage stormwater by easing the strain on municipal systems, improving water quality, and naturally recharging groundwater. They also support native plants and pollinators, enhancing biodiversity. Instead of relying on hardscapes that contribute to urban runoff and increased flood risk, communities can incorporate lush rain gardens for and create safer, more resilient places to live!

Our Sustainable Infrastructure and Parks Committee's visited the Memorial Park prairie and land bridge to see resilience and recreation in action, showcasing how thoughtful design can restore ecosystems, improve connectivity, and create beautiful green spaces that strengthen the region's resiliency. 🌲🦔💧

We don't usually think of wastewater when talking about infrastructure. But it plays a major role in how our region grows💡

New wastewater technologies can help communities reuse water, recover energy, reduce waste, protect the environment, and support future development.

What used to be seen as something hidden in the background is now becoming an important part of building stronger, more resilient communities.

As Greater West Houston continues to grow, smart wastewater planning will help shape how we manage water, protect resources, and support quality growth for decades to come.

Bridgeland is an 11,400-acre QPD designed with a strong emphasis on connectivity, livability, and long-term growth. The community features amenities such as Josey Lake, a 140-acre waterway that serves as the development centerpiece, along with more than 250 miles of trails that connect residents to nature and recreation. Bridgeland also integrates sustainable infrastructure throughout the community, including a purple pipe water reuse system that irrigates common areas and has saved more than 4 billion gallons of potable water since its inception. Additional features such as rain gardens and bioswales help manage and naturally filter stormwater, demonstrating how thoughtful planning and resilient infrastructure can support both environmental stewardship and quality living. 🏡
