1st week of appointments and living at the Houston Ronald McDonald house down.
Toured the NICU and had Appointments with OBGYN, neo-natology, pediatric cardiology, heart surgeon
Blessings Found
-Mom and baby are currently doing well and will not require early induction if metrics stay well
-Azariah’s heart is strong, has pretty good balance between the two halves, and has great rhythm.
-The PDA - little bypass vein baby’s use to route cord blood in utero - was found on the EKG and can be utilized in the first procedure
Prayers needed
-Azariah has heterotaxy syndrome - heart is on the right side of his body and the location of the connecting arteries and veins does not conform to any sort of mold, which makes a two side repair very complicated
-Heterotaxy often affects more than just the heart. The formation, location, and usefulness of other organs is often different from the standard blueprint. There is a MRI next week to look more into this
-Total AVSD - hole in the heart which does keep oxygenated blood separate from the de-oxygenated blood like a standard heart does
-Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) with pulmonary atresia - Aorta and pulmonary artery (PA) share the same zip code and PA is very narrow, like a spaghetti straw
Dinner has been donated by a different non-profit everyday during the week with lots of left overs being packaged away and available in the communal fridge.
Everyone is super friendly and we have met so many beautiful families. We also have met a family who was departing the RMH without their baby. There is a heaviness in this place and all kinds of diagnoses that remind us of just how broken of a world we live in
