The American Red Cross quickly responded to the recent earthquake in Hawai‘i County, mobilizing resources to assist the hardest-hit communities between Hōnaunau-Nāpōʻopoʻo and Kona Paradise. After receiving numerous calls on Saturday, May 23, Red Cross volunteers like Robin "Kamalei" Anderson went into the field the very next day. Field teams delivered urgent support and surveyed homes to determine the extend of damage.

It is CPR & AED Awareness Week! During this week, we recognize the importance of initiating CPR and using an AED as a response to cardiac arrest. More than 350,000 people suffer cardiac arrest annually, but less than 10% survive.

Every second counts when responding to cardiac arrest. If you see someone suddenly collapse, become unresponsive, and stop breathing, call or ask someone to call 9-1-1, send someone for an AED, and begin CPR.

Even if you aren’t trained, doing chest compressions (pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest) is better than doing nothing. In many cases, the 9-1-1 operator can talk you through CPR.

Aloha Friday reminds us how powerful a simple hug can be. 🌺

In Hawai'i, the spirit of aloha means showing up for one another, especially when it’s needed most.

Aloha Friday is about caring for the people around us and leading with compassion. It’s the Red Cross spirit - showing up for our communities, offering support in hard moments and carrying aloha wherever it’s needed.

This Aloha Friday, we’re proud to stand beside people in need, sharing support, strength and hope wherever we go.❤️

After everything this community has been through, this is what hope sounds like.

“Every time somebody walks here with a red shirt, they’re giving us hope.”

In the middle of everything, people are showing up for each other, reminding neighbors they’re not alone and that there is still a way forward.

“We feel that we’re not alone.”

If you or someone you know in the CNMI needs help, please call the Red Cross Northern Mariana Islands Chapter at 670-234-3459. Those in Guam should call the Guam Chapter at 671-472-6217.

As we celebrate Military Appreciation Month, we pause to lift up the heroes who’ve worn the uniform and stepped up for others, often at great personal sacrifice 🇺🇸🪖.

Across Guam, the CNMI, Hawaiʻi and American Samoa, military service is part of our communities, our families and our culture of care.

Today, we’re honored to recognize Emily Reed, a retired U.S. Air Force nurse whose service continues long after her time on active duty🎖️💙. While stationed at Travis Air Force Base in the 1960s, Emily experienced the compassion of the Red Cross during a time of personal loss - a moment that stayed with her for life.

Years later, living in Hawaiʻi and seeing disasters impact island communities, she chose to give back by becoming a monthly donor and including the Red Cross in her estate plans ❤️

Emily's legacy is a powerful reminder that service doesn’t stop with retirement — it evolves, inspires and carries forward to the next generation.
