The recent fires in Hawai'i, especially on Maui, have caused devastating damage. The Hawai'i Museums Association stands in unity with those who have suffered losses, be it loved ones, family and community treasures, homes or historic structures.
As the urgent priorities of health, safety, recovery of loved ones, and hazardous material abatement take precedence, HMA is joining efforts to coordinate salvage and recovery of affected cultural collections. If you belong to an affected institution/organization/business, would like to share information and resources, or volunteer expertise, please email HMA president Eric Chang: [email protected]
Membership/affiliation with HMA is not required.
There are many efforts to support those in need - a demonstration of the aloha and generosity throughout Hawai'i and around the world. Below are some resources for relief and recovery efforts.
Cultural institutions and arts organizations impacted by the fires can call the National Heritage Responders hotline: 202.661.8068.
The National Heritage Responders, a team of trained conservators and collections care professionals administered by the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation, are available 24/7 to provide phone advice and guidance.
Members of the public who have questions about saving family heirlooms can email the National Heritage Responders at [email protected]
