Passing along a message from the Benny and Faith Agbayani,
Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association's Dance Director & Associate Dance Director:

This has been a challenging year for all of us, and I hope this finds you all staying healthy and well.

As we slowly return to “normal”, Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association plans to reopen dance classes at the Aiea Dance Studio on May 3, 2021. In compliance with the City and County of Honolulu Reopening Strategy and CDC guidelines, initial class offerings will be limited to line dancing and basic ballroom dancing in shine position (“gentlemen on one side and the ladies on the other”). Social distancing, face masks, the cleaning and disinfecting of the facility and other measures will be practiced and enforced.

Chapters at other locations will remain closed until further notice. (Sorry Kaimuki Chapter... we still need to wait a little longer.)

We will let you know the details on registration and class offerings at the Dance Studio no later than the second week of April. Initial registration will be on a first come-first served basis as classes will be limited to 8 students.

It has been over a year since the closure, and I am sure everybody is anxious to get back to dancing. So, please spread the word about our reopening.

We hope to see you soon.

Updates will be sent by email from HBDA. Any questions or concerns regarding the dance program, please email HBDA ([email protected]).

Aloha Fellow Dancers,

It's been a while since we've posted in large part because of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. It's probably long overdue that we gave you all an update.

Essentially all Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association (HBDA) chapters have been closed since the start of the shut down orders in March 2020. Given that our activities are all about close contact, often with people outside our homes, continuing such classes would be extremely risky given the nature of this pandemic.

Because of this, HBDA will continue to be shut down at least until January 2021. The situation with the pandemic will be reassessed at that time.

In the mean time, the organization unfortunately has ongoing costs that usually get mitigated by the various funds we generally pay for our classes and dance events. Because none of those events and classes are happening the funding situation for the main HBDA organization is not great, and HBDA has therefore set up a way for those who are interested to donate and help keep the little non-profit afloat during these challenging times. We wish you good health and hope to see you in 2021

Mahalo,
HBDA - Kaimuki Chapter

For over 60 years, the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association or HBDA has been serving the people and communities of Hawaii. Our founder, Eugene and Harriet Ichinose, had a dream to "have every couple in Hawaii dancing at a reasonable cost." Eugene viewed ballroom dancing as one ...

GREG & JOE (Danny) CARREON.......a loving and lovely couple, both passed away. Joe (Danny) had been sickly for quite a long time and Greg was the care giver but he died Tuesday December 5. On Thursday Greg who was planning the service of her husband got in a car accident at Costco Gas Station at Dillingham. The air bag in her car blew up, then hit a utility pole. She survived over 24 hours but died yesterday December 9, 2017...........Greg was an OBT EXTRAORDINAIRE..A very good Instructor or teacher for the new Medical Student, Interns Doctors and Nurses. All the Kapiolani Labor & Delivery staff were indebted to Greg for what had they learned from her.....Greg & Joe (Danny) were rotating instructors for the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association of Hawaii. They were a very good dance instructors for the new beginners in dancing.
