Tuesday night was a beautiful reminder of what makes this community so special.
As our neighbors at Park at Buckingham face an unexpected displacement, we were honored to host a Community Resource Fair at the Outreach Hub to help residents connect with financial assistance, housing and legal resources, an array of support and people who could help them navigate their next steps.
117 households came through our doors Tuesday night, and what was waiting for them was a community that cares.
Between the City of Homewood, Trinity and the generosity of the Homewood community, $135,000 is available to help these neighbors with relocation expenses, with HICA stepping in to administer that assistance in a responsible way.
Trinity volunteers assembled 200 care packages for residents, and organizations from across our community showed up ready to answer questions and solve problems. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity we have seen!
When our neighbors are in need, our city, schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and neighbors don’t spend much time asking whose job it is to help. People start calling, organizing, giving, volunteering, and figuring out what they can do. And then they do it.
We are so grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another, and so thankful for every person and organization who helped make the Resource Fair possible.
And most importantly, to our Park at Buckingham neighbors: we hope you know how many people in this community care about you and are standing with you as you navigate what comes next. ❤️
