Tuesday night was a beautiful reminder of what makes this community so special.

As our neighbors at Park at Buckingham face an unexpected displacement, we were honored to host a Community Resource Fair at the Outreach Hub to help residents connect with financial assistance, housing and legal resources, an array of support and people who could help them navigate their next steps.

117 households came through our doors Tuesday night, and what was waiting for them was a community that cares.

Between the City of Homewood, Trinity and the generosity of the Homewood community, $135,000 is available to help these neighbors with relocation expenses, with HICA stepping in to administer that assistance in a responsible way.

Trinity volunteers assembled 200 care packages for residents, and organizations from across our community showed up ready to answer questions and solve problems. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity we have seen!

When our neighbors are in need, our city, schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and neighbors don’t spend much time asking whose job it is to help. People start calling, organizing, giving, volunteering, and figuring out what they can do. And then they do it.

We are so grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another, and so thankful for every person and organization who helped make the Resource Fair possible.

And most importantly, to our Park at Buckingham neighbors: we hope you know how many people in this community care about you and are standing with you as you navigate what comes next. ❤️

We are so glad to welcome Betsy Mishoe back to the Outreach Hub as our Case Management Coordinator! Betsy previously managed our Good Jobs grant, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring her back on staff.

The Outreach Hub has been honored to receive a grant from the Sarah Marsh Memorial Fund, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, to fund this two-year, part-time position. This is a huge gift to our programs and our neighbors. Through Betsy’s work with our guests, this generous donation will help us follow through with so many needed next steps for our families.

Sarah Catherine Marsh, the beloved little girl of this special memorial gift, brought love, joy, and light into the world for eight unforgettable years. Her family was incredibly touched by the outpouring of support and tributes they received after Sarah’s passing. They decided to establish this fund to make sure that Sarah’s love and light live on not only in their hearts, but by impacting others for years to come in a way that reflects her joyful spirit and passions – to bless others in her honor.

Thank you, Marsh family, and welcome, Betsy. 🩵

On Thursdays, our personal shoppers warmly welcome neighbors to the Outreach Hub’s free Store, where guests can shop once per season.

Volunteers guide guests through their shopping appointments, showing them where to find clothing, shoes, diapers, linens, books, toys, and other household items. They also assist with carts, bagging, checkout, and loading items into vehicles.

These caring personal shoppers – only some of whom are pictured here – enjoy getting to know our guests and helping them select the things they need. One Hub volunteer said, “Seeing the difference we have made in individuals’ and families’ lives has been very personally rewarding. Being the hands and feet of Christ is our mission to our neighbors in need.”

We’re so grateful for this wonderful team! 👕❤️

We’ve added more volunteer slots to help with the Park at Buckingham Community Resource Fair! Sign up at https://tinyurl.com/Park-at-Buckingham to volunteer on Tuesday, August 18.

You can also donate toilet paper and paper towels – please drop them off at the Outreach Hub by Monday, August 17.

The 400+ residents of the Park at Buckingham Apartments in Homewood are facing displacement after most of the buildings at the complex were deemed unsafe for occupancy. Families are now navigating the challenge of finding new housing, along with the financial, legal, and logistical needs that come with an unexpected move.

We are partnering with , , .alabama, , , and to help connect these neighbors with resources and support.

Thank you for the continued way you support your neighbors!

Thanks to your generosity, our adult clothing racks are full! The Hub Store’s most-needed items are in-season, casual clothes for children. Right now, we are very short on play clothes for boys 18 months to 5 years and girls 24 months and 2T. Clean, like-new clothes (and new clothes!) can be dropped off Monday through Thursday.

We also have an Amazon wish list if you’d like to have items shipped directly to the Hub. It includes essential new items including children’s underwear and socks. Check it out here: https://tinyurl.com/Hub-Wish-List

We are truly thankful for your donations and for the love and care that our wonderful volunteers put into sorting clothes, setting up the Store, and welcoming our guests!
