πŸŽ‰ What an incredible day for our troop! Today we had the honor of welcoming six new Scouts through not one, but TWO crossover ceremonies, and we couldn't be more proud!

A special milestone was made today as four incredible girls crossed over and officially joined our ranks. They are the FIRST girls ever to cross over into a Family Troop in the state of Alabama! 🌟

Welcome to the troop, Scouts! The adventure is just getting started. πŸ•οΈβšœοΈ

We are proud to announce that Troop 95 is officially becoming the first Scouting America family troop in Birmingham, welcoming both boys and girls to continue their Scouting journey together.

While girls have been part of Scouting America for several years, 2026 marks the first year boys and girls can participate in the same troop. This transition creates a seamless pathway for both male and female Cub Scouts who are ready to move into Scouting while remaining connected to the adventure, leadership development, and outdoor experiences that make Scouting unique. As a family troop operating under the guidelines of the Greater Alabama Council, Troop 95 is committed to maintaining a youth-led program focused on character, service, teamwork, and fun.

Young people who are interested in a new challenge will have the opportunity to earn merit badges, advance in rank, participate in camping trips and high-adventure outings, and work toward the prestigious Eagle Scout rank in a supportive, family-friendly environment. Scouts can begin as early as 6th grade but many Scouts start later in middle and high school and are eligible to join up until 17 years old.

β€œWe are excited to expand our troop and welcome more families,” said Scoutmaster Will Womack. β€œScouting builds confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships, and we look forward to offering those opportunities to even more youth in Birmingham.”

Another eventful Day at Camp Comer! Despite the storms, many of us tried our hand at the riffle range at some point today (some are really sharp shooters). Some scouts also enjoyed the camp mining tower!

Hello from Camp Comer! Our first two days have been great but not without issues. We made entryways and camp gadgets (2 weather rocks), found out the waterfront is closed so had to change a few schedules, found a scaly friend in Mr Boyds bed, sang songs, learned new things and even survived a summer storm. More to come later!

Wow a second post in 1 day! Such a rarity but I thought this second event deserved it's own post. After ILST we hosted a reunion cookout. It was so great to see past scouts and their families again.

Today was a full day of learning. Several adults and older scouts lead a full day of ILST (Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troop). We were joined by a few scouts from Homewood troop 79. As the name suggests it helps provide the new leaders of the troop a foundation to being a good leader. Integrated throughout the course are games that help demonstrate to the scouts what good leadership involves.

This weekend the troop went to Gulf Shores State Park. We had loads of fun from good local food and troop shrimp boil, swim safety, hiking, digging holes in the sand, swimming, appreciating the local wildlife, and learning about birds and turtles at Nest Fest. We even had an alligator friend that lived in the water by our camp. We couldn't agree on a name so we called him Holly Wally Al Stevo.

Tonight the scouts had their meeting at Homewood City Hall to work on some of the requirements for Citizenship in the Community merit badge. They first met with council President Walter Jones to ask questions about issues in Homewood. Each scout brought up something that was on their mind from clarification on what was happening with Brookwood mall property and the recent embezzlement of City funds to new concerns such as more bike lanes and a dead tree that needs removing among other things. After the discussion they then attended the council meeting where Assistant Senior Patrol leader Peter Womack gave the invocation prayer followed by the scouts leading the room in the Pledge of Allegiance.

We had some AMAZING weather this weekend at our annual Vulcan district camperee! The scouts participated in several activities from string burn, pancake flip and using a saw. Two scouts even entered the cake baking competition with this delicious chocolate cake! The traditional Saturday night OA tap and awards bonfire was gorgeous and included a flag retiring ceremony and two surprise deer spectators that did not seem time mind the noise.

PSA!!! Please if you have an old torn, faded or dirty flag, replace it and take to a local boyscout troop for proper retirement. Respect our flag and do not throw them away or attempt to burn them yourselves.
