💜 Celebrating the Difference Our Volunteers Make 💚

At the Oriol Foundation, one of the ways we support our community is by connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities to make a difference—and Emma is a wonderful example.

Emma, a Rutland, MA native and rising junior at the University of Connecticut, has been volunteering with residents at Holden Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center since December 2024.

She is majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology on the pre-medical track and plans to pursue a medical degree, with the goal of becoming a geriatrician or palliative care physician.

Her time at Holden is giving her an opportunity to connect with older adults while doing something she says she loves:

Thank you, Emma, for giving your time, compassion, and energy to our residents and our community. We’re proud to have you as an Oriol Foundation volunteer and excited to see where your journey takes you!

💜 Community Update from the Holden Senior Center

The Holden Senior Center will remain closed to the public until Monday, August 17, as improvements are being made to the building. We appreciate all they do for our community and look forward to returning once they reopen!

If you're caring for a spouse, parent, family member, or friend, we invite you to join us for our monthly Peer-Led Caregiver Support Group at the Sterling Senior Center.

🎓 A Look Back: Honoring Our 2026 Eugene Oriol Memorial Scholarship Recipients

This June, the Oriol Foundation had the privilege of recognizing two outstanding individuals whose dedication to healthcare reflects the values and legacy of Eugene Oriol.

👏 Congratulations to our 2026 scholarship recipients:

💜 Lily Leroux
Recipient of the Eugene Oriol Memorial Community Scholarship, Lily will attend Sacred Heart University to pursue a degree in Nursing. Her compassion, resilience, and passion for caring for others made her an exceptional choice for this year's award.

💚 Mario Muto, RN
Recipient of the Eugene Oriol Memorial Team Member Scholarship, Mario serves as an 11–7 Supervisor at Holden Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center and is continuing his education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. His commitment to lifelong learning and compassionate care exemplifies the spirit of this scholarship.

Each year, the Oriol Foundation awards these scholarships to honor Eugene Oriol's legacy by investing in the future of healthcare—supporting both students entering the profession and dedicated healthcare team members advancing their education.

We are incredibly proud of Lily and Mario and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the years ahead.
