At She Believes in Me, our mission is rooted in making sure children and teens who are navigating some of the greatest challenges in our community know they are not facing them alone.

Our Emotional Support Bags are one way we put that mission into action.

Created for children and teens who may be experiencing stress, instability, self-doubt, or difficult circumstances, each bag is designed to provide encouragement and practical tools that support emotional well-being.

Every bag is centered around an affirmation and includes an inspirational note, an activity, a support tool, and a fidget. Each item is chosen intentionally to help young people build resilience, regulate emotions, strengthen confidence, and practice important social-emotional skills.

These bags are not simply filled with supplies. They are created to reinforce a message we want every child we serve to feel:

You are seen. You are valued. You matter. 💛

Through our programs and community partnerships, these resources are placed directly into the hands of children and teens who can benefit from that reminder most.

We’re grateful to be part of Tuba Mansoor’s inspiring journey of service. 💛

Her story is such a powerful reminder that when young people are given opportunities to serve, lead, and care for others, those experiences can shape a lifetime of community involvement.

We were especially honored to have Tuba bring that same heart for service to She Believes in Me, helping create meaningful experiences for the children we serve.

My Journey with Rotary Began Long Before I Officially Became a Rotarian

As a student at Herndon High School, I was involved in Interact, where I discovered the importance of giving back to my community. Through initiatives such as Excel tutoring and mentoring students at Herndon Middle School, I learned that service isn’t always about grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s simply about showing up, sharing your knowledge, and making a difference in someone’s day.At the time, I didn’t fully realize how much those experiences would shape the person I would become.

Years later, my journey came full circle when I joined the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston in 2026. Returning to the Rotary family, this time as an adult and professional, felt incredibly meaningful. The same values that inspired me as a teenager continue to guide me today: compassion, community, leadership, and service above self.

My commitment to service also extends to participating in the She Believes In Me event, where I worked with young children and help create meaningful experiences that encourage, support, and inspire them. Being involved in opportunities like these reminds me that investing in children and nurturing their potential can make a lasting difference in their lives.

One of the most meaningful milestones of this journey was receiving the Paul Harris Fellow recognition in May 2026. It was a moment of gratitude and reflection, reminding me how something that began in high school had grown into a lifelong commitment to service. My story is a testament to the lasting impact of youth service programs like Interact. They don’t just create opportunities for students to volunteer; they help cultivate the next generation of community leaders.

And for me, this is only the beginning.

We’re excited to welcome Stanley Martin Homes as a new She Believes in Me community partner! 💛

Stanley Martin employees joined us to help prepare three months of Emotional Support Bags for the children and teens we serve, while also generously sponsoring the supplies for the event.

Together, they packed bags centered around gratitude, self-worth, kindness, and respect, helping us prepare meaningful resources for the months ahead.

We launched this school year’s Life Skills events with She’s Hopeful 💛⭐

Mental health matters, especially for vulnerable children and teens.

Supporting a child’s emotional well-being starts long before a crisis. It begins with making sure they know they matter, that they have someone in their corner, and that they have opportunities to build the skills and confidence they need to navigate life.

That is exactly what She Believes In Me does through our Believers Life Skills and Teen Leadership programs. Children and teens learn about emotional regulation, resilience, and self-worth. Our Emotional Support Bags give children tools and activities that encourage healthy ways to express themselves and manage big feelings.

And sometimes mental well-being starts with something even more fundamental: knowing that your community sees you and cares about you.
She Believes in Me plays an important role in supporting children’s mental health and emotional well-being. While we do not provide clinical mental health treatment, we are part of the community support ecosystem that helps children feel connected, capable, valued, and hopeful.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that every child deserves to hear:
You matter. You are not alone. You are capable. You are worth believing in.
That is why we do what we do.

Last fall, 22 of our teens laughed through a hayride, found their way through a corn maze, and cheered each other on at Cox Farms. 🍂💜

Between those adventures, friendships grew. Shared laughter and trying new things together gave our teens time to connect, feel included, and simply enjoy being teens.

This fall, help us give 20 teens that same opportunity.

Before a child walks into She’s Hopeful to explore their dreams and discover new reasons to believe in themselves, someone has already poured care into the activities waiting for them. 💛
This week, our community volunteers gathered to help prepare for October 10, giving their time and attention to the little details that make these experiences possible. Then they came back the next day, bringing reinforcements: new volunteers ready to lend a hand.

Along the way, we shared conversations and enjoyed being together. Mary M Linn put it beautifully: “This is my weekly social interaction.” 💜

That stayed with us. While we were preparing a space where children can feel connected and encouraged, we were finding connection ourselves.

To everyone who showed up, returned, or invited someone new: thank you. Your care reaches the children long before event day, and it helps keep SBIM’s mission moving forward.

A child deserves space to dream about their future, discover what makes them special, and learn what to do when life feels hard. 💜

That’s why we hold our Life Skills events, and why this program is so close to the heart of She Believes in Me.

Through hands-on activities, children explore hope, gratitude, friendship, and their own strengths. A vision board gives them space to imagine possibilities. An activity about kindness becomes a chance to practice caring for someone else. Each experience is designed to help them build confidence, express their feelings, and find tools they can carry into everyday life.

At the center of it all is a message we want every child to hear: You matter. You belong. Your future is worth believing in.

Last school year, 770 children participated in our Life Skills events. These photos hold a few memories from that year, and we’re looking forward to beginning again on October 10 with She’s Hopeful. 💛

New moments to connect. New possibilities to imagine. The same belief in every child.

When Maggie reaches out for SBIM, her community shows up. 💜

For more than two years, Maggie has given her time to our mission. Thursday night at Savoy, she brought together the people who have answered her calls, donated items, and helped care for children and families alongside her.

Their kindness is part of what keeps our programs going. Thank you, Maggie, and thank you to every person who keeps saying yes. 💛

Behind every diaper is a family, a little one who deserves comfort, and a parent who deserves one less worry.

Our incredible SBIM volunteers had the opportunity to lend a helping hand to NOVA Diaper Bank, turning a simple act of service into meaningful support for families in our community.

We are so grateful to NOVA Diaper Bank for the important work they do and for giving our volunteers the opportunity to be part of it. Together, with the Sterling Ruritan Club and other wonderful volunteers, we are reminded of what happens when a community comes together to care for one another. 💜
