🚲 A Great Day for Herndon Kids, Thanks to Capital One! 🚲

On August 4th, a team of volunteers from Capital One gathered in Tysons, VA, for a hands-on build day with heart — assembling 8 bikes from the ground up, piece by piece. But they didn't stop there. Capital One generously donated all 8 bikes, along with helmets, to The Green Lizard Foundation!

These bikes are more than just a fun ride — they're headed to kids in our Herndon community, helping them stay active, build confidence, and enjoy the outdoors this summer and beyond.

We're so grateful for partners like Capital One who show up, roll up their sleeves, and invest directly in our local youth. It's this kind of community support that keeps The Green Lizard Foundation's bike program moving forward!

If you'd like to support our mission or learn how you can get involved, drop us a message — every bit of support helps us reach more kids in Herndon. 🟢🦎

🎆 Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🎆

This July 4th, as we celebrate two and a half centuries of freedom, we're reminded that the American spirit has always been about community, opportunity, and lifting each other up.

250 years ago, our founders dreamed of a nation where opportunity was possible for all. Today, we're doing our small part right here in Herndon — one bike, one meal, one kid at a time.

🚲 🇺🇸 Here's to the next 250 years of community, together.

Today was one of those days that reminds us why the Green Lizard Foundation exists. 💚

It's not every day you have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of complete strangers—but today, we were fortunate enough to do just that.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to help two families facing difficult circumstances.

🚗 We assisted a couple in obtaining reliable transportation, giving them the ability to attend medical appointments, meet with service providers, pursue employment opportunities, shop for groceries, and handle the everyday tasks that so many of us take for granted.

🚲 We also provided bicycles to two young children whose family is experiencing incredibly challenging times. These bikes are more than just a way to get around—they're a chance to laugh, explore, make memories, and simply be kids again.
Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness create the biggest impact.

To everyone who supports the Green Lizard Foundation—through donations, volunteering, or simply sharing our mission—thank you. You are changing lives, one family at a time.
Together, we're building a stronger, more compassionate community. 💚

This year, 77 Herndon Middle School students learned to ride, race, and repair bicycles — and 10 of them got on a bike for the very first time. 🚲💚

The HMS Bike Program, a free after-school initiative supported by The Green Lizard Foundation, ran every Thursday during the school year, giving students free access to cycling instruction, safety training, and hands-on bike maintenance.

"This program does more than teach kids to ride — it builds the kind of confidence that shows up in everything they do," said Rick Racine, HMS Bike Program Lead.

Ten students went home with refurbished bikes, helmets, and locks — and several are already riding to school every day. 🚲

Huge thanks to volunteers Peter Klosky, Craig Farr, Steve Kaplan, and Rick Racine for showing up every week, and to Liana Shivers and the HMS team for their incredible support.

Want to be part of it next year? The program returns September 10 — no experience needed, just enthusiasm! Contact Rick at [email protected].

Herndon Middle School Bike Program reaches 77 HMS Students, Puts 10 New Riders on the Road

Seventy-seven Herndon Middle School students learned to ride, race, and repair bicycles this year through the HMS Bike Program, a free after-school initiative supported by the Green Lizard Foundation. The program ran every Thursday throughout the school year, giving all HMS students access to cycling instruction, safety training, and hands-on maintenance skills — at no cost.

The program's standout moment: 10 students rode a bicycle for the very first time. Watching them gain confidence and independence through cycling made every Thursday worthwhile.
"This program does more than teach kids to ride — it builds the kind of confidence that shows up in everything they do," said Rick Racine, HMS Bike Program Lead. "Seeing a student ride independently for the first time never gets old.”
Ten students earned refurbished bicycles, new helmets, and locks to take home — and several are already riding them to school, turning a program benefit into a daily habit.

The Green Lizard Foundation and its donors made all of this possible. Special thanks to volunteers Peter Klosky, Craig Farr, Steve Kaplan, and Rick Racine, who gave their time and expertise every week to make the program a success. We greatly appreciate the support from Liana Shivers and the Herndon Middle School team for their assistance and hard work promoting the Bike Program with students.

Want to volunteer next year?
The HMS Bike Program returns September 10. We're looking for people who enjoy working with middle schoolers and want to help build cycling skills and confidence. No professional experience required — just enthusiasm.
