A tragic story out of Oregon reminds us to always check our gear before heading out on the water. It sounds like an oversight while using an inflatable PFD just cost a kayaker his life on the Columbia River.

Please know your gear, how it works, and check it before every trip.

Authorities say the fisherman was wearing an inflatable life jacket that appeared to be in good condition but was missing a CO2 cylinder.

Okay, who's a dedicated runner? You think you have what it takes to keep up with this guy from Minnesota? He just ran a marathon while carrying his canoe! And he now plans to do a 26 mile portage every week with his canoe, in support of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Our very own Gobble Wobble is coming up soon! Can we count on seeing somebody carrying their canoe during the run??

What would you portage a marathon for? A Minnesota man recently ran the entire Twin Cities Marathon while carrying a canoe to raise awareness for the

It looks like a great weekend to get out there for what might be the last good float of the year! The weather is supposed to be perfect and the leaves are showing great color! This could be our last chance to enjoy the river this year!

As far as we know, the river is clear of obstructions.

Though the weather forecast is beautiful, remember the water is starting to cool down. We need to keep the "Rule of 120" in mind this time of year. The air temps are forecast for mid-to-high 60s, while the water temps are mid-to-high 50s, putting the total right at or just over that magical 120 mark. Hypothermia is a real threat if you get wet. Leave the cotton clothing at home, dress in wool and synthetics, and consider taking a spare change of clothes in a waterproof container, "just in case".

And always wear that PFD!

Post reports and pictures if anybody gets out this weekend, we'd love to see them!

We had to wait until the autumnal drop in water levels to do this project…. and we are thrilled to announce that we’re upgrading the launch at Riverside Park! This is next to the pavilion where we host Paddle Fest, so now you won’t have to struggle to keep your footing on a muddy bank.
