Our mission is to reduce recidivism by supporting and advocating alongside those with court and justice involvement. Our vision is to be a leader in decreasing the prison population by supporting and empowering those who are most affected by crime, trauma, and incarceration. We will treat everyone with dignity and respect and will not pass judgement, as we seek justice and redemption. We will be community centered and act according to the greater good of the people we serve. To the best of our ability, we strive to do no harm to the people we serve and the communities we live in.

For a decade, alongside over 20 state and national partners, we have led the Virginia Right to Vote Coalition’s efforts to end felony disenfranchisement in our state constitution. There has been plenty of misinformation/disinformation about question 3.

What does Ballot Question 3 do?
• Establish a fundamental right to vote for every eligible Virginia voter
• Automatically restore civil rights upon release from incarceration
• Replace mental competency voting restrictions with a standard focused on the capacity to understand the act of voting
• Ensure individuals who live with disabilities do not lose their civil rights solely because they need assistance with day to day functions

What does Ballot Question #3 NOT do?
• Allow voting while in prison for a felony offense
• Automatically restore fi****ms rights
• Give authority to the Governor to reinstate fi****ms rights
• Alleviate responsibility to pay fines, fees and/or restitution
• Remove a reinstatement process through courts for individuals deemed incapable of understanding the act of voting

Virginia voters will decide whether people convicted of felonies should automatically regain their voting rights after release from incarceration — a question at the heart of Amendment 3 on this year’s ballot.

It’s “taken us a long time to get this on the ballot,” Sheba Williams, who’d worked with lawmakers on the legislation, said. “It’s very difficult to change the constitution.”

But that also means it will be harder to undo it.

Williams is among more than 200,000 Virginians who regained their voting rights after a court ruled earlier this year they never should have lost them based on a Reconstruction Era law.
