“Helped People Help People.”

Have you ever been destitute, homeless, hopeless and desperately seeking aid? I have been. It was a hard time for my family and I. The worst night was when my stepdaughter asked when the next time we could have hot food for dinner would be. You see, we were living out of a van that I had bought by selling off my worldly possessions so we could try to get jobs and get our feet back under us. The hurdles were huge. Then the van broke down and we were stuck. We couldn’t afford to repair it again and we had no savings left. We needed help and couldn’t get the help we needed fast enough. I swore that if we ever got our feet under us again I would find a way to help others climb up, too. That was the birth of “Helped people help people.” Our mission is to help those who need assistance when other options are just out of reach. In the year we have been offering community aid, we have helped find housing and food, clothing and even Christmas presents for 8 families to date. That might not seem like a lot but we’ve done all of that without a dime of donations. Imagine how much more we could do with actual financial backing! Next year we will be obtaining our official licenses and forming a proper non-profit organization. We will be working towards the following goals by the end of 2019: A temporary housing shelter for abuse victims and homeless families as well as runaway teens in need of emergency shelter, a free after school/day care center to help parents return to work without the hurdle of finding affordable day care, homework centers that help with tutoring and socializing kids in a safe environment, aid with school lunches and even clothing assistance. With community help, we can accomplish each of these goals.
