Over the past 48 years, MLR’s work has protected some of Montana’s most important agricultural lands, fish and wildlife habitat, and open spaces.

We are thrilled that our work was selected for funding through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative. With this support, we will continue working with landowners to protect over 11,000 acres of grassland habitat. Thank you, NFWF!

On a recent outing at the newly protected Loon Lake Family Ranch near Polson, plant enthusiasts joined MLR and the Montana Native Plant Society to explore the native plants thriving on the property.

The highlight? Discovering Spalding's catchfly - one of only three native plants in Montana listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. This rare plant is only found in a handful of locations in Montana and is considered globally imperiled.

Its presence is a testament to the Binger family's decades of thoughtful stewardship. Through careful grazing management and invasive w**d control, Mac Binger has helped create the conditions that allow native plants to thrive.

The Montana Land Reliance knows how important water is for our state. The landowners we work with have protected over 2,000 miles of rivers and streams across Montana, with 176 of those miles in Park County. We're honored to be featured in a new story from Esri highlighting how MLR staff uses GIS technology to steward protected private lands across Montana. By combining field visits with mobile GIS tools, our stewardship team can efficiently and accurately monitor MLR's 1,000+ conservation easements each year, while maintaining the strong relationships with landowners that are at the heart of our work.

A huge thank you to the Esri team for spending some time in the field with us and for sharing the story of how technology is helping us protect Montana's working lands, wildlife habitat, and open space for generations to come!
