A little rain didn’t dampen our spirits! ☔️🍂

The Turner Ashby Chapter 162, UDC, enjoyed a wonderful day yesterday visiting the historic New Market Battlefield!

We toured the Hall of Valor and watched a very informative film about the Battle of New Market and the brave young VMI cadets who fought there on May 15, 1864.

The rainy weather seemed especially fitting, reminding us of the wet and muddy conditions those young cadets and soldiers faced more than 162 years ago. It certainly gave us a greater appreciation for the history that unfolded on those very grounds.

It was a wonderful day of history, learning, fellowship, and making memories together. We are grateful for opportunities like these to step back in time and experience Virginia’s rich history firsthand! ❤️

It was a beautiful evening to remember and pay tribute to General Turner Ashby this evening at the place he fell 164 years ago today. Guest speaker Aaron Siever with Aaron’s Civil War Tours, gave a very informative speech on Turner Ashby “The Black Knight” and his leadership during the Battle of Harrisonburg. Every year on this date our chapter, along with the Col. D.H. Lee Martz Sons of the Confederacy Chapter, pay tribute to this fearless leader.

In April our club traveled to Richmond to visit the United Daughters of the Confederacy headquarters and then to Hollywood Cemetery where we visited many civil war graves and saw the graves of Presidents James Monroe and John Tyler
