The message from the Hudson Valley echoes what communities across New York are saying: Weatherization works, and families need it.

Weatherization Assistance Programs (WAP), like the one at Ulster County Community Action Committee Inc., help lower energy bills, improve housing conditions, create jobs, and keep vulnerable New Yorkers safe and comfortable.

This work supports the mission of Association for Energy Affordability to advance energy efficiency and affordable housing for underserved communities. Without restored state funding, these critical services are at risk.

Thank you to The Daily Freeman for highlighting what’s at stake. Now Albany must act and include Weatherization funding in the final budget.

Leaving the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) out of the final State Budget would be a costly mistake for New York.

WAP saves money by lowering energy bills and reducing long-term costs for families, communities, and taxpayers. Without funding, New York risks losing skilled workers, local jobs, and the experienced crews helping families across the state every single day.

The Senate and Assembly both included WAP in their budget proposals. Now we urge Kathy Hochul to finish the job and include WAP funding in the final budget this week.

Thank you to Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli for speaking out in support of this critical program.

📣 Watch, share, and help us keep the pressure on.

Energy that Connects:

For 50 years, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) has helped keep thousands of New Yorkers safe and their homes energy-efficient.

Now, for the first time in our state’s history, Governor Hochul is proposing to cut millions of dollars from these life-saving programs, putting children, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities at risk.

Learn more about how AEA and Bronx residents are driving change in the fight to protect weatherization programs and expand energy justice in their communities.

For 50 years, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) has helped keep thousands of New Yorkers safe and their homes energy-efficient.

WAP helps New Yorkers achieve long-term energy affordability and safety by weatherizing their homes.

Historically, 10% of Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) funding has gone to WAP. This year, however, New York State plans to redirect that money away from WAP, creating a 60% reduction in the program’s funds.

Join us and Senator Brian Kavanagh in telling Albany to restore 10% of HEAP funding for WAP. Protect New York’s Weatherization services!
