At Rocking the Boat, students work together to build wooden boats, learn to row and sail, and restore local urban waterways, revitalizing their community while creating better lives for themselves. Adam Green launched Rocking the Boat in 1996 as a volunteer project in an East Harlem junior high school. It has since developed into a fully sustainable independent non-profit organization annually ser

Help us honor two inspiring Rocking the Boat alumni at Rocking the Boathouse on May 20!

Tiffany Barker and Terrell Smith are close friends and co-recipients of this year's Pete and Toshi Seeger Alumni Award. The two alumni joined the program in 2006 and 2004, respectively, and have since applied the skills they first learned at Rocking the Boat, taking them across the globe.

Tiffany discovered her talent for teaching not long after joining the Environmental Program in high school. An internship on the Sloop Clearwaterand stints with Teach for America and UNICEF were followed by teaching positions in Venezuela, Brazil, and her native Guayana. Tiffany is a veteran coxswain of eight Rocking Manhattan circumnavigations, including one she recruited her mother to row!

Being part of a group building a boat together translates directly to Terrell’s current position leading a tight knit team in the Wealth Management Platforms Division at Morgan Stanley managing over $50 million. Driven to succeed in the competitive finance field, he completed a professional development program with Year Up NY and a fellowship with UBS prior to his current role. An active MS volunteer, Terrell has recently begun mentoring junior analysts as part of the bank's RISE program (Rotational Insights, Support, and Experiences).

Join us in honoring them both on May 20. 🎟️ Get tickets at www.boathouse.nyc

Rocking the Boat's Sailing Program is growing! We are adding six Club 420 racing dinghies to our fleet of classic wooden sailboats, Hobie catamarans, and Quest training dinghies. This expansion will give our sailors the opportunity to train and compete in the same boats used by nearly all competitive sailing teams, building the same skills and racing experience as their peers. It will put them on equal footing with the sailors they may meet in college and beyond.

To help make this possible, Rocking the Boat's Board of Directors has approved a $120,000 budget for the 420s and the expert coaching needed to sail them. They have also issued a fundraising challenge: every contribution raised leading up to and at Rocking the Boathouse will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $60,000!
