Dear Friends,

Please note that effective June 1, 2018 Program Reach, Inc. will permanently close its doors. We leave with heads held high – yes, we are crying because it is over – but we are REJOICING because it happened!

Whether you were a Board member, a Donor, a staff member, a parent who entrusted your child to our care, a student, a peer educator, a principal, superintendent, evaluator, or simply a supporter of our work you were an essential part of our team. As a team, we were incredible! We had the opportunity to change the world for the youth that we were privileged to serve, and we ensured that we did that.
Over the course of our time together we would have made Vince Lombardi proud for “we have chased perfection; we have chased it relentlessly, knowing all the while that we could never attain it. However, along the way, we caught excellence.” That allowed us to make a difference!

We are all proud of what we have accomplished together as a team over the course of our time at Program Reach, Inc. Collectively we have made a lasting impact on the lives of so many young children. While the organization as we now know it will cease to exist, the work that we did, the message that we stand behind, and the youth that we serve will ALWAYS remain close to my heart.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have led this TEAM! Collectively, and individually, the Board and staff of this fine organization have been imaginative, creative, dedicated, passionate, and compassionate. I could not have asked for a finer group of people to walk alongside me on this magnificent journey.
I will always remember Program Reach as a place that I called home for more than 10 years. It was work, but it was not work. An office, like other offices, with desks like a lot of other desks, in a building like a lot of other buildings; but, we were unique! We had an incredible team, and we made a difference to each other, and to the youth that we served. And the thing is, after all these years, I still look back with wonder.

According to data compiled by The New York Post, the percentage of young people who have had s*x now stands at 31 percent, down from 38 percent in 2011 and 51 percent in 2001 -- a 20 percent drop in 14 years.

City teens are taking the old anti-drug mantra, “Just say no,” to heart — when it comes to s*x. More Big Apple high-school students than ever say they are abstaining from s*x, a health poll reveals...

Healthy Relationships Act Introduced in Congress

The chances for positive, healthy outcomes are improved when teens understand that focusing on their education and future goals requires self regulation and discipline – and that s*x can complicate those goals. Teens learn the importance of valuing themselves and others, as they understand that healthy relationships are the foundation of mutual respect.
The Healthy Relationships Act, was introduced Wednesday, January 21, in the House of Representatives by Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) and Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) – and set to be introduced in the Senate on Tuesday, January 27 by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). The bill does not increase government spending, but rather redirects current s*x education funding to risk avoidance education for youth.

Ask your member of Congress to help support the bill.

Press Release from January 12, 2015:
“It is simply unacceptable for school-based health centers to allow hundreds of prescription medications and thousands of needles to go missing and not keep an accurate accounting of medical records,” said Dr. Nanci Coppola, CEO of Program Reach. “This is a shocking failure of school administrators, their healthcare professionals and the State Health Department, all of whom are responsible for our children’s safety. We commend Comptroller DiNapoli for shining a light on this dangerous breakdown.”

Dr. Coppola called the Department of Health’s commitment to policy changes a step in the right direction, but said increased oversight and accountability measures that monitor their results are needed to ensure reforms are working.

Hypodermic needles, contraceptives, prescription drugs have disappeared from health centers in schools, report said.
