Our 3rd annual Burnt Fork Poker Ride was a huge success! Thank you to the 80 bikes/horses who came out to celebrate private, landowner-driven conservation in the Bitterroot Valley!

Riders had the chance to see a birds eye view of the 7,000+ acres of contiguous, conserved working ranches in the Burnt Fork made possible by the vision of generous landowners and support from our community.

Special thanks to the Next Gen committee for planning this event, to landowners Steve Peckinpaugh and Catherine Taylor Peckinpaugh for hosting, and landowners Drew and Kaci Lewis, Doug and Janis Astle, Dan and Debbie Severson, Dan and Sari Kerslake, and Carola Woolsey-Mielke and Ed Mielke for volunteering your land for poker hand stops.

Thanks to Colleen Goldhorn and Bob Oettinger for photographing the event, Double K Ranch for feeding us, Higherground Brewery, Culligan Water of Missoula, and House of Ferments for the drinks, and Bitterroot Disposal for donating waste cans.

Missed the Poker Ride, but still want to celebrate conservation with us this summer? No problem! Tickets are for sale now for the 7th annual BRLT Barn Dance on Saturday, July 11 at 5pm at Skyline Angus in the Burnt Fork neighborhood of Stevensville. Taking care of business 🧻

We are happy to share that a brand new restroom facility has been installed at the C. Ben White Memorial Trail across from Conner Cutoff on the West Fork!

This was a group effort by BRLT and partners Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the Bitterroot National Forest. Thanks to these partners for helping to elevate the experience for trail users and to BRLT’s Stewardship Director Rhiannon for leading the project.

On Saturday, BRLT volunteers spent the morning clearing the way for an awesome new trail for the horseback route for the Poker Ride on 5/30!

The once grown-over trail, which originally followed the irrigation ditch on Lazy Burnt Fork Ranch, will be an option for adventure seekers, in addition to the original Poker Ride trail which follows along a meandering dirt road. Huge thank you to Andrew and his crew from Hensel Phelps and Next Gen member Colleen & Chase Goldberg for the help!
