Okay, Bitterroot businesses...who’s starting the challenge? 👀

The Ravalli County Fair is next week, and we think a little friendly competition could do a whole lot of good!

Here’s the challenge:

🐄 Buy an animal at the 4-H/FFA livestock sale.
💛 Have the meat sent to Haven House.
🥩 We’ll cover the processing through Hamilton Pack.

Your purchase supports a local kiddo who worked all year to raise that animal AND helps put locally raised meat on the tables of families right here in our community!

So let’s make this fun.

Who’s going first?

And more importantly…

Who are you calling out next? 👀🤪

Tag a local business that needs a little friendly competition in the comments.

When you hear “food box,” what do you picture? One cardboard box?
Honestly, that’s what a lot of our new volunteers picture too, until they spend a little time in the Box Room. ☺️

They realize pretty quickly that a Monthly Box is a whole lot more than, well…a box.

Families get to choose from pantry staples like pasta, rice, beans, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, soup, protein, bread, milk, eggs, yogurt, and more.

Thanks to purchases, gleaning, and generous donations, families can often take home fresh produce, desserts, and other extras, too.

The really cool part is that no two Monthly Boxes look exactly alike.

A Box for a household of one isn’t going to look the same as one for a family of six.

Someone who’s gluten-free needs gluten-free bread and cereal, and we’ve got those options available.

One person might come in and only need rice and pasta because they already have the rest of the ingredients at home to stretch into several meals.

Another household might be coming in after a major medical bill or an unexpected car repair, and they need help getting their pantry stocked back up.

Every Monthly Box is a little different because it’s built around the folks taking it home. 💛

Last year, folks who purchased animals at the fair and didn’t need all that meat in their own freezers chose to send some of it our way.

And honestly, it was a big deal.

💛 For months, we were able to give breakfast sausage to the families who came into Haven House.

As volunteers, we’re lucky enough to see both sides. We see the donations come in, and we see the folks who receive them.

We know that package of sausage we’re sticking in the freezer means somebody has a good breakfast. It means their kids get eggs and sausage before heading off to school, and it means one less thing a parent has to figure out that week.

Right now, when meat is so expensive, donations like that matter so much.

We see it in our freezers. We hear it in conversations. And we see it on the faces of the folks who come through our doors.

Everybody’s grocery dollars are being stretched farther, and good sources of protein can be especially hard to keep stocked.

Making a difference in your community doesn’t always have to feel like some huge thing or another chore on your list.

Sometimes it looks like going to the fair and doubling your impact as you support Ravalli County 4-H

So…what do you think, Ravalli County?

Can we do it again? 💛
