The Bitterroot National Forest on Monday said that a mining company that owns mineral rights near the West Fork of the Bitterroot River has rescinded its draft plan for exploration of the Sheep Creek Project in order to submit a revised proposal by the end of April.

Thank you to our county commissioners!

Thanks to the Ravalli County Commissioners for approving a letter opposing a fast-tracked process for a permit to explore for rare earth elements as a step to full-scale mining in the headwaters of the Bitterroot River, Sheep Creek, home to pure westslope cutthroat trout, our state fish, and clean cold water for fish, wildlife and people downstream. And thank you to partners and all the local residents who showed up to stand up for a clean Bitterroot.
