At approximately 1920 hours on Wednesday, July 29th, Hamilton Fire was paged to a porch fire west of town with auto aid from Corvallis Fire. Upon arrival, the rear of the residence and garage were found to be fully engulfed with dense smoke showing from all eaves. It was noted that the occupant of the residence was still inside. Initial fire and law enforcement on scene were able to extract the occupant to a safe location. Before arrival of the first engine on scene, the garage roof collapsed and forced fire further through the upper portion of the structure. First crews were able to get multiple hand lines onto the fire to knock it down with good water supply established. A second collapse of the structures roof occurred shortly after water was initiated. Crews were forced to fight fire from the exterior due to significant structure deterioration. The majority of the fire was knocked down around 2000 hours. Crews remained on scene mopping up hot spots and cleared shortly before 2300. One firefighter was transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, while another was treated on scene due to heat related stress.
