In 2020, the rink at Gurnee Mills was gearing up to close.

The facility was operating with no margin, years of deferred maintenance, and the added pressure of COVID. Many rinks across the country did not survive that period.

Frozen Floor Inc. and Top Shelf Ice Arena were created to ensure this rink survived and thrived.

Since then, the focus has been steady and deliberate: stabilizing operations, improving safety and the skating experience, and planning for long term sustainability. That work continues today, and it is being done with transparency and a commitment to stewardship.

This page exists to share progress, challenges, and the vision ahead. Not everything happens overnight, but meaningful community assets are built through consistency, care, and shared responsibility.

We are grateful for the community that continues to believe this rink is worth protecting.
