Join us for our monthly CLULC meeting!

CLULC meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. Please note this month's meeting location.

We’re excited to hear about how Warren-Newport Public Library is expanding access through Spanish-language and bilingual services, community partnerships, and culturally responsive programming. Attendees will learn how these efforts are helping Latino families connect with resources, build community, and feel a greater sense of belonging.

We will also officially install the 2026–2027 CLULC Board of Directors.

CLULC celebrates HACES on receiving the City of Waukegan’s proclamation recognizing June as Immigrant Heritage Month.

We proudly recognize the many contributions immigrants make to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our communities. We are especially proud to see CLULC Board members Maria Elena and Beatriz representing and uplifting our community through their leadership.

Congratulations on this meaningful recognition!

Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham and the Waukegan City Council proclaimed the month of June as Immigrant Heritage Month in the City of Waukegan and presented the official proclamation to Hispanic American Community Education Services (HACES).

Waukegan is a diverse community whose strength, culture, and character have been profoundly shaped by generations of immigrants from across the world. Immigrant Heritage Month provides an opportunity for all residents of Waukegan to reflect on the history of the city, to celebrate the contributions of immigrant neighbors, and to reaffirm the commitment to being an inclusive and supportive community for all.

From Connections for the Homeless

Support is needed for an affordable housing development, Midlothian Manor, that is being proposed by Housing Opportunities Development Corp (HODC). The proposed site is in unincorporated Lake Zurich and needs to be rezoned for a density of 24 units and requires a Conditional Use Permit. To accomplish this next step, the project needs the approval of the Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals. This project is needed for our neighbor households earning approximately $20,000-$40,000 per year ($10- $20 per hour) or less than 60% of the area median income, who are our grocery clerks, CNAs, and those living on social security. More details about the development are attached.

This development is in unincorporated Lake County, and open to anyone to apply to be a resident. There is significant opposition, and your support as a Lake County resident and/or stakeholder is needed. To help advance this project, we are asking for your support.

You can make an impact by:

1. Attending the Zoning Board of Appeals hearing on May 28, 1:00–4:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lake Zurich (365 Surryse Rd. 2nd Floor). If you are able to attend in-person, call/text Liz Nelson at 847-840-3422. The members of the Zoning Board of Appeals put more weight on in-person or verbal support than letters of support.
