Edit.
From PDC Doug McMillin

Cribs Camp is really making it happen. The best part is that William Bray and the men out west have inspired the rest of the PA Department to step up and look at doing the same work in their areas. Massive respect for the the brothers doing this work.

On October 3rd 2026.
The Cribbs camp installed the final Veterans grave marker at the Methodist Episcopal Cemetery (Hope Cemetery) in Youngstown, PA.
William C. Strickler was in the U.S. Volunteer Signal Corps during the Civil War and was stationed in Latrobe, PA. He was responsible for relaying information to and from the front lines.

Over the last two years the Camp replaced 7 grave markers of the 8 Veterans buried there, as well as cleaning all of the headstones and reseting two headstones that had fallen over.

Thank you to the Boy Scouts who cleared all the overgrowth and Randy Lawson who continues to mow and maintain the grounds today.
And everyone else who was involved.

At our October meeting the Cribbs camp had the Honor to present to the Great Grandson of Capt Cribbs , Glenn M. Smeltzer a camp membership and a Lifetime membership to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
He has become our oldest member.
Glenn has over the many years personally worked to preserve the memory of Capt Cribbs by writing several articles and books. He has also worked on many projects in Westmoreland County to promote the importance to remember the Veterans of the County by documenting their final resting places.

Huzzah Brother Smeltzer. You’re an inspiration to us all.
