Of course we would take in an all black family in October! They are still hiding and lurking but when you hold them they are super sweet. Momma Eleanor has done a fantastic job thus far. 2 girls, Eris and Elise. Two strong boys, Emory and Emir.
There is a lot of stigma around black cats and Halloween. Ancient Egyptians worshiped Bastet, who was a black cat goddess. And in those times anyone caught harming a cat (even by accident) could face ex*****on. However, they usually didn’t get that far to be officially charged as an angry lynch mob would often seek vigilante retribution. Then in the 13th century some angry pope linked cats to satan and witchcraft. Staining particularly the black cat as the strongest of familiars to witches. As it were then the strongest of witches would have their own little black demon to help them wreak hell on Earth. Later on during the Middle Ages cats were blamed for bringing plague and evil to Earth. Cats of all color were being wiped out and killed. Which brought more rats and more plage tenfold. I see a pattern here.
So it seems that even for black cats they have stood the test of time and have been around as far back as any humans can remember. In some cultures black cats resemble prosperity and good fortune. You would be considered extremely lucky and honored that a black cat would choose to cross paths with you. Personally I am humbled when any cat chooses to walk with me along life’s paths we be. Whether you feel they chose it, or it simply be blind faith, when a cat chooses you, their gift is no accident…..it was always meant to be.
So at the shelter, we are completely out of wet and dry food. We have been struggling lately trying to stretch food and supplies as far as we can. We know a lot of rescues are struggling in that department. So we do hate to ask but we also have to make sure that this family gets vetted this week as well. We have had a few adoptions which is great but also the Avengers will be up and coming to get fixed very soon. 8 in that crew. The kitten room is always bouncing with life and when you walk in no less then ten swarm you and want petted and cuddled. The kitten room is one of my favorites, just one though of many!
