We're trying again for a river cleanup! (Hopefully we have normal water levels this time.) All volunteers must pre-register at mtwatershed.com/volunteer!

This will be an active day! MWA will provide trash bags and heavy gloves to protect your hands. Please wear clothing you can get wet and don’t mind getting dirty. Bring snacks, sunscreen, water, and a waterproof bag for your things, if you have one.

If water conditions are unsafe, we will cancel.

There is still time to purchase some native trees and shrubs!

Pennsylvania Department of Health and Penn State Extension to Provide Education and Free PFAS Water Testing for a limited number of Private Wells, Springs, and Cisterns

Does your drinking water come from a private well, spring, or cistern? Concerned about PFAS levels in your private water supply? Here’s your chance to learn more!

Private water supply users in Fayette and surrounding counties are invited to attend the “Understanding PFAS in Private Water Systems” workshop on July 16, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Penn State Extension of Fayette County Office, 34 West Peter Street, Second Floor, Uniontown, PA 15401. Participants will gain a better understanding of how PFAS move through the environment, potential pathways for human exposure, and available testing and monitoring resources for private water supplies. The workshop will also cover how to interpret test results, explore management options, and review current scientific research and regulatory developments related to PFAS.

At the workshop, each household will receive a no-cost PFAS test package through a PA DEP-accredited water testing laboratory, valued at approximately $300. To qualify for free water testing, participants must utilize a private water supply as their primary source of drinking water, participate in the educational workshop, collect their water samples, and return them to a designated local drop-off location within a few days of the event. Registration is required, and seats are very limited. Additional information and registration are available online at https://extension.psu.edu/understanding-pfas-in-private-water-systems or by calling 1-877-345-0691

This program is being offered at no cost by Penn State Extension with funding through a Pennsylvania Department of Health cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control, Environmental Health Capacity building initiative (Grant -01-00).

If you have any questions about this program, contact Susan Boser at 724-774-3024 (phone) or [email protected] (email).
