The Empowered Caregiver: Building Foundations

Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias affect memory, thinking, and behavior, often making daily activities and caregiving more complex. In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, Penn State Extension offers The Empowered Caregiver, an evidence-based education program designed to support those caring for individuals with dementia. The "Building Foundations" session introduces the five key areas of a person-centered care approach, providing practical insights to help caregivers better understand and respond to the needs of those in their care.

Who is this for?
This program is for family members and friends caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias who want to strengthen their caregiving skills while supporting their own mental and physical well-being.

Penn State Extension’s Westmoreland County 4-H Program is honored to receive a generous $20,000 contribution from Grow Westmoreland in support of our youth development programming efforts.

The award was presented during the Summer Bash: A Toast to the Trades event and will help create engaging, agriculture-focused educational experiences for Westmoreland County students in grades 3–5.

Through these hands-on learning opportunities, students will gain greater awareness of local agriculture and the many rewarding career pathways available in agriculture and ag-related industries right here in our community.

We are grateful to Grow Westmoreland for investing in the future of our youth and helping us inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders, innovators, and professionals.
