Imagine Wisconsin five years from now...

-A new doula doesn't have to wonder where to find support.
-Hospitals know how to successfully collaborate with doulas.
-Families understand the value of doula care before they ever become pregnant.
-Experienced doulas are still practicing because they have sustainable careers—not because they sacrificed everything to stay.
-Legislators recognize doulas as an essential part of maternal health.

Community organizations, healthcare systems, public health leaders, and birth workers are sitting at the same table, solving problems together.

This isn't just wishful thinking.

It's the profession we're building.

Every regional meetup.
Every training.
Every newsletter.
Every advocacy conversation.
Every hospital partnership.
Every member who joins.
Every stakeholder who says, "How can we help?"

It all adds up.

The Wisconsin Doulas Association was never created to be the loudest voice in the room.
It was created to make sure doulas had a voice in the rooms where decisions are made.
Because this work has never been about one organization.
It's about building a profession that is respected, sustainable, collaborative, and accessible for every Wisconsin family.

To every doula, healthcare professional, partner organization, member, volunteer, and supporter who has walked alongside us...

Thank you.

We're not just supporting today's families.
We're helping shape what maternal health in Wisconsin looks like for generations to come.
And we're just getting started.

💙 If you could change one thing about maternal health in Wisconsin, what would it be?

Let's dream big together.

📰 Wisconsin doulas are making an impact—and people are noticing.

Across our state, doulas are:
🎤 Speaking at conferences.
🏥 Partnering with hospitals.
📚 Educating healthcare professionals.
🤝 Building community collaborations.
🎓 Teaching childbirth education.
🏛 Helping shape maternal health policy.
💙 Supporting families every single day.

Every time a doula is interviewed, invited to speak, recognized in the media, or asked to sit at the table, something bigger happens.

The profession becomes more visible.
Families learn what doulas do.
Healthcare professionals better understand our role.
And the next generation of doulas sees what's possible.

At WDA, we believe success isn't about one person getting recognition.

It's about celebrating the work happening across Wisconsin and lifting one another up.

👏 This month, we're celebrating all of the doulas who are making a difference—in big ways and small.

Did you recently:
✨ Present at an event?
✨ Receive an award?
✨ Be featured in the news?
✨ Start a new collaboration?
✨ Launch a new program?
✨ Celebrate a milestone in your business?

We want to celebrate with you.

👇 Drop your accomplishment in the comments or send us a message so we can help share your story.

Because when one Wisconsin doula shines, our entire profession shines a little brighter.

What Are We Measuring?
Let's have one of those conversations...

What does success look like for the doula profession?

Is it...
More doulas?
More births?
More Medicaid reimbursement?
More hospital partnerships?
More legislation?

Those things matter.
But what if success also looked like...

✔ Experienced doulas staying in the profession for 10, 15, or 20 years.
✔ New doulas feeling supported instead of overwhelmed.
✔ Families having access to doula care regardless of where they live.
✔ Hospitals understanding how to collaborate with doulas.
✔ Business owners making a sustainable living doing work they love.
✔ A profession where mentorship is expected, not accidental.

Sometimes workforce development gets measured by how many people enter the profession.

At WDA, we believe another question is just as important:
How many are able to stay?
Because recruiting new doulas is only part of the story.
Retaining experienced doulas is what builds a profession.

💬 Let's talk.

When you picture the future of doula care in Wisconsin...
What does success look like to you?
There isn't one right answer.
That's why we're asking.

Join the conversation.
What would you add to the list?

Share your perspective in the comments, then learn more about WDA's workforce development and advocacy efforts at https://bit.ly/47zqrp9

Here's a truth we think about often...

The future of doula care in Wisconsin won't be shaped by doulas alone.

It will also be shaped by:
🏥 Healthcare systems
🏛 Legislators
🤝 Community organizations
📊 Public health leaders
💙 Families
📚 Educators
💼 Employers
…and people willing to show up and advocate for change.

That's why WDA exists.

We believe the future of maternal health should be built with doulas, not just for doulas.
That means creating space for real conversations.
It means inviting diverse perspectives to the table.
It means listening when experiences differ.
And it means recognizing that strengthening the doula profession strengthens the care available to Wisconsin families.

One of the ways we're doing that is through our Advocacy Committee.
You don't need to be a policy expert.
You don't need to have testified at the Capitol.
You simply need to care about the future of this profession and be willing to learn alongside others.

Whether your passion is:
• workforce development
• Medicaid reimbursement
• hospital collaboration
• rural access
• postpartum care
• equity
• business sustainability
..there is a place for your voice.

Because change doesn't happen by accident.
It happens because people decide to get involved.

💬 What issue do you think deserves more attention in Wisconsin's maternal health landscape?

We'd love to hear your perspective.

📣 WISCONSIN DOULAS — YOUR EXPERIENCE IS DATA. YOUR VOICE MATTERS.

Wisconsin's 2026 Maternal Health Workforce Assessment is underway, and we want doulas represented in this conversation.

This assessment is looking directly at the experiences of people working in maternal health across Wisconsin—what's working, where the challenges are, and what needs to change to create a stronger, more sustainable maternal health workforce.

And yes, doulas belong in that conversation.
We talk often at WDA about the realities of this profession:

The on-call life.
Building a sustainable business.
Workforce shortages.
Rural access.
Burnout and retention.
Hospital collaboration.
Reimbursement.
Professional recognition.
The barriers that make it harder for talented doulas to stay in this work.

Here's an opportunity to make sure those realities aren't just conversations between ourselves—they become part of the information being collected about Wisconsin's maternal health workforce.

The assessment is being facilitated by Culture x Design, with support from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Responses are confidential, and findings will be compiled into a public-facing report intended to strengthen maternal health across Wisconsin.

We need doulas represented in that data.

If you're working in maternal health in Wisconsin, please take the time to participate.

And then SHARE this with another doula, birth worker, or maternal health professional in your network.

Because when decisions are being made about the maternal health workforce, the people doing the work should be part of the conversation.

If you asked 100 people what a doula does...

You'd probably get 100 different answers.

Some think we're birth coaches.
Some think we're childbirth educators.
Some think we're medical providers.
Some think we're only there during labor.

The truth?

A doula isn't defined by one task.
A doula is defined by a relationship.
We build trust before labor begins.
We help families understand their options.
We provide continuous emotional and physical support during labor.
We support partners.
We help families process their birth experience.

Many doulas continue supporting families into the postpartum period as they adjust to life with a new baby.

Every doula practices a little differently.
Every family has different needs.
But at the heart of this work is one constant:
We meet families where they are.
That's why doulas don't replace physicians, nurses, or midwives.

We complement their care by providing something healthcare systems often struggle to provide consistently:

Time. Continuity. Presence.
The future of maternal health isn't about choosing one model over another.
It's about understanding how every member of the care team contributes to healthier families.

💬 Let's hear from you.

"What does a doula do?"

How do you answer?

Help Shape the Future of Doula Care in Wisconsin
Leadership doesn't always happen in a boardroom.

Sometimes it starts over coffee with another doula.
Sometimes it's organizing a local meetup.
Sometimes it's making sure someone new to the profession knows they aren't alone.

The Wisconsin Doulas Association is looking for three passionate leaders to join our Regional Coordinator team!

We're currently seeking Regional Coordinators for:

📍 Northern Wisconsin
📍 Western Wisconsin
📍 Southeastern Wisconsin

Regional Coordinators are the heartbeat of WDA's local communities. They help connect doulas, foster relationships, organize regional gatherings, share opportunities, and ensure the voices of their communities are represented in statewide conversations.

You don't have to know everything.
You don't have to have years of leadership experience.
You simply need to believe that Wisconsin doulas are stronger when we're connected.

As a Regional Coordinator, you'll help:
🤝 Build local doula community
☕ Coordinate networking opportunities and meetups
📚 Share educational resources
🗣️ Elevate regional needs and successes
💙 Welcome and encourage doulas at every stage of their journey

If you've been looking for a way to make an impact beyond your own clients, this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Dear New Doula,

Welcome.

You are entering one of the most meaningful professions there is.

You'll witness strength you never imagined.
You'll celebrate incredible moments.
You'll learn something from every family you support.

But can we tell you something we wish someone had told us?

You do not have to know everything.

You don't have to have the perfect birth bag.
You don't have to know every comfort measure.
You don't have to compare yourself to the doula who's been attending births for fifteen years.

You just have to stay curious.

Listen more than you speak.

Learn from every birth.

Ask questions.

Find mentors.

Celebrate small wins.

And remember...

Your value isn't measured by how many births you've attended.

It's measured by how you make families feel.

Some births will humble you.

Some births will change you.

Every birth will teach you something.

Give yourself permission to grow.

The Wisconsin doula community needs you—not because you're perfect, but because you're willing to keep learning.

At WDA, we believe none of us should have to build this career alone.

Welcome to the profession.

We're glad you're here.

💙 Tag a doula who encouraged you when you were just starting out.

And if you're an experienced doula...

What's one piece of advice you'd give someone attending their first birth?

If you're a seasoned doula, leave one piece of advice in the comments.

If you're new to the profession, tell us: What's one thing you're excited—or nervous—about?

When people ask...

"Why should I join the Wisconsin Doulas Association?"

Our first answer isn't a list of benefits.

It's this:

Because no profession grows without its professionals.

Membership isn't just about what you receive.

It's about what we build together.

When you become a WDA member, you're helping create a stronger future for doulas across Wisconsin.

You're helping us:
🤝 Build relationships with hospitals.
🏛 Advocate for policy change.
📚 Develop educational resources.
🌎 Strengthen regional communities.
🎤 Amplify the voices of Wisconsin doulas.
💙 Build a profession that future doulas are proud to join.

Yes, membership includes newsletters, our Members Classroom, regional networking, leadership opportunities, and advocacy updates.

But the greatest benefit?

Belonging to a community that's working toward something bigger than any one doula.

Every member strengthens the collective voice.

Every perspective matters.

Every connection makes our profession stronger.

Whether you're a brand-new doula, a seasoned birth worker, a postpartum doula, educator, mentor, or advocate...

There's a place for you here.

💬 We'd love to know...

What's one thing you've gained from being connected to other doulas?

If you're not a member yet, we'd love to welcome you.
Become part of Wisconsin's statewide doula community.
