From September 1st to November 1st, receive 15% off of "Solito" by Javier Zamora at Lion's Mouth Bookstore as a part of our quarterly "Lit Pick"! We hope that this collaboration serves to better connect our community with the stories of people like our students. At the core of our organization are stories of survival, resilience, and hope. Each quarter, we'll be promoting a different book that centers the cultures and journeys of our students. With so many countries of origin represented at Literacy Green Bay, the possibilities will be endless! Book description:
Javier Zamora’s adventure is a three-thousand-mile journey from his small town in El Salvador, through Guatemala and Mexico, and across the U.S. border. He will leave behind his beloved aunt and grandparents to reunite with a mother who left four years ago and a father he barely remembers. Traveling alone amid a group of strangers and a “coyote” hired to lead them to safety, Javier expects his trip to last two short weeks.

At nine years old, all Javier can imagine is rushing into his parents’ arms, snuggling in bed between them, and living under the same roof again. Calling all Literacy Green Bay supporters!📣📣

Are you looking for a new volunteer opportunity? Do you love getting to know new people? Are you excited about helping people practice their skills?

We are looking for consistent volunteers to facilitate conversation with small groups of English Language Learning students who are practicing their speaking skills!

Shifts starting September 14: 4:30-5:30 pm (Mondays and Tuesdays) or 11:30 am-12:30 pm (Wednesdays and Thursdays). Minimum age to participate is 18.

As of 2023, over 33 million U.S residents are impacted by the digital divide💻

These individuals are unable to access information and resources through technology due to barriers such as not having access to a computer and not knowing how to use one. Many of our Literacy Green Bay students had never used a computer before coming to the United States. Without these skills, it's incredibly difficult to navigate different systems, including the job market and government benefits.

Within our English Language Learning classes, all students participate in computer lab time where they learn how to use a mouse, type on a keyboard, and so much more!⌨🖱😎
