Did you know the zoo is home to 2 species of gibbons? Gibbons are classified as lesser apes, not monkeys. Manny is 16 years old and is a Lar Gibbon and Maggie is 42+ years old, and is a Pileated Gibbon. Both species are endangered in the wild.
Manny had a brain infection prior to moving to the zoo so sometimes his movements are a little wobbly. Maggie is advanced in age and came to us with some malformed fingers. Despite both of their challenges, they move around their exhibit space well and love to chat to visitors. All gibbons have a unique call they use with their partners to call out their territories.
🌡️Don't forget, when temperatures start to get super toasty, the best time to visit the zoo is in the morning. Later in the day many animals are given access to their cooler indoor areas!
