On May 20, 2026, Ohio Environmental Council and OEC Workers United finalized contract negotiations and ratified a new three-year agreement. The renewed contract was unanimously approved by both OEC’s Board of Directors and the members of OEC Workers United. Among other provisions, the new agreement includes:
-Improved annual general wage increases and minimum salaries
-Strengthened internal leadership and professional development pathways
-Maintained core benefits, such as 100% employer-paid health insurance and retirement matching plans

OEC is excited to welcome our Scenic Rivers Intern, Ella Bjorkman. Ella will be managed under ODNR over the summer to assist in holding Stream Quality Monitoring (SQM) trainings, presenting at SQM / Scenic Rivers public programming, collecting data on Scenic Rivers, and performing invasive species management as needed.

Ella Bjorkman is a rising junior at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She is originally from Delaware, OH and majoring in environmental science and public health. She loves running, all things bees, her family, and reading up on climate change issues. She hopes to become a toxicologist in the future and help make the future sustainable for everyone. Ella looks forward to working with OEC this summer and being part of the team!

Ohio’s data center tax breaks are costing way more than promised—up to $1.6 billion in 2025 alone.

Meanwhile, programs like H2Ohio and Ohio EPA funding are left competing for resources.

We can’t afford giveaways that undermine investments in our air, water, and communities.
