The latest edition of "Belay On" is now available on the website. This new edition updates the Scouting America branding, brings policy language up to date and into alignment with Guide to Safe Scouting and NCAP, updates images and links, and refreshes content throughout the book. Thanks to the team that contributed to this update including: Christopher Moon. John Winter, Randy Hinckley, Sasha Timkovich, Rhonda Gail Rodgers Wright, Andy Deal, and Christopher Johnson, as well as Bill Beaumont, Thomas Pendleton and Aaron Derr supporting this project in the national office.

This Saturday will be the 10th and last rappelling outing for 2025. Approximately 250 participants have enjoyed the courage- and confidence- building activity of rappelling from cliffs as high as 120 feet.

In order to continue having this activity available to scouts, trained adult instructors are needed, and needed to help with several outings each year. Training is generally offered in May, so stand by until details are available. Your help is essential!

Rappelling in the Simon Kenton Council is ACTIVE this year! We have had 2 training sessions, 1 Camporee, and 4 outings so far this year. We also have 9 outings and Webelos in the Woods on the schedule for the rest of the year. That's a LOT of outings! If your troop wants an outing, start planning now for 2025. If you want to help make these outings continue to happen, plan to get trained in 2025. If you're already trained, we still need commitments for help on 7 of the outings scheduled (1 in July, 1 in August, 4 in Sept., 3 in Oct.). Questions, contact [email protected]

Registration is now open for Level I Climbing Instructor training in May (11 and 18). The training will enable participants to assist with rappelling outings this year. More instructors are always needed. Prior experience is helpful, but not necessary. The outings will always be led by one or more experienced BSA Climbing Directors, but we need help from Level I Instructors to be able to offer the outings to troops.

2023 has been a busy year for Simon Kenton Council Rappelling. Even having to cancel a couple of outings due to rain, we've had eight outings and two training Saturdays. We've had about 200 participants enjoy rappelling this year and for many it was a real boost for their self-confidence. We already have 5 outings scheduled for 2024! If you'd like to help sustain this program for the scouts in the council we'll be offering Level I Climbing Instructor training again next May 11 and 18. Simon Kenton Council Cope and Climbing needs your help!
We are in need of Level 1 Climbing Instructors to be able to support ongoing rappelling outings for scout troops. Please consider helping by becoming a Level I instructor.

The SKC Rappelling program has been in existence for over 30 years! Scouts and Scouters are offered the opportunity to safely rappel down cliffs at Camp Falling Rock or in the Hocking Hills.

Level 1 Climbing Instructor Training is offered May 13th (Camp Falling Rock) and May 20 (Hocking Hills). All equipment will be provided and no previous experience needed! Both Saturdays required. Questions: [email protected]

Take your scouts rappelling! If your troop hasn't been on a rappelling outing, you need to take them! If they've gone, they want to go again! It's a great adventure and confidence builder. They can do it as a day outing or part of a camping weekend - either at Camp Falling Rock or in the Hocking Hills. No experience is necessary and all necessary equipment is provided.

Groups should be at least 15 participants (scouts plus adults) and up to as many as 40. Schedule an outing while there are weekends available! Send an email to [email protected] for more information or to request an outing.

We are planning to again offer Level I Climbing Instructor training in May, probably May 13 and May 20 (both Saturdays required). If you're interested in helping to sustain this program, stay tuned for more information.
