Dear Members:

It is with tremendous sadness and disbelief that I share with you the devastating news of the passing of the Hon. Sandra B. Sciortino, retired judge of the New York State Supreme Court, and devoted member and past president of the Women's Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties.

Please join us in extending our deepest condolences and sympathies to Judge Sciortino's family, friends, and our local legal community.

A “Celebration of Life” is currently planned at Donovan’s Funeral Home in Goshen, NY, on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 4PM to 7PM.

Judge Sciortino was a giant in our legal community. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her, with her sense of humor, intelligence, and class. She will be missed deeply by all.

Please RSVP by this Friday, October 23, 2026, for the historical marker dedication ceremony recognizing the Honorable Lawrence H. Cooke, Chief Judge of the State of New York from 1979 to 1984. Attached is the invitation from the Sullivan County Historical Society, Inc. and the Sullivan County Bar Association.

The dedication will take place on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Courtroom 1 of the Lawrence H. Cooke Sullivan County Courthouse in Monticello, New York. Light refreshments will be served at 1:30 p.m., followed by the dedication ceremony at 2:00 p.m. The marker unveiling will follow immediately at the Cooke family home in Monticello.

We hope you will join us for this special occasion as we honor Judge Cooke's distinguished legacy and lasting contributions to the judiciary and the State of New York.

WBAOSC members attended the Annual Building Houses Building Hope Breakfast today to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh. WBAOSC member Christina Randazzo sits on the Board for Habitat.

WBAOSC is always so proud to support Fearless! Hudson Valley in October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month for our annual Yoga Charity Event.

We coordinated with Fearless! to assess survivors’ needs, and yoga event attendees donated these items which we stuffed into totes to be delivered to Fearless! Hudson Valley.

Thank you to Dominique Matthews for leading our yoga class this morning, Integrative Collective and Sarah Jean White for donating their beautiful yoga space in Goshen, and WBAOSC member Kristen Verrino for spearheading and organizing another successful charity event.

Fantastic “Dinner with a Judge” event celebrating the recent ground-breaking appointment of the Hon. E. Danielle Jose-Decker as the 3rd Judicial District Administrative Judge — the first ever 3rd JD AJ from Sullivan County! Members of the bar traveled from Ulster/Dutchess and Capital District/Adirondack regions to enjoy this momentous occasion with her.

Thank you to the Sullivan County Bar Association, Mid-Hudson Women’s Bar Association, and the Capital District Women’s Bar Association for co-sponsoring this event presented by the Women’s Bar Association of Orange & Sullivan Counties.

Dinner with a Judge was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Judge Jose-Decker and her judicial service within — and beyond — Sullivan County. Indeed, Sullivan County enjoys a special distinction when it comes to judiciary lineage, from the Hon. Lawrence H. Cooke and Hon. Judith S. Kaye, both Court of Appeals Chief Judges hailing from Monticello, to all the Sullivan County women firsts, including Judge Jose-Decker as first woman County Court judge, Judge Jacqueline Ricciani as first woman Family Court judge, and Judge Meagan Galligan as first woman Supreme Court judge.

With all of these firsts — all WBAOSC members — in attendance at the dinner, the evening was an extraordinary way to mark Judge Jose-Decker’s pathbreaking place in Sullivan County’s history of eminent judiciary.

Congratulations again to the Hon. Jose-Decker. We are so proud to call you one of our own!
