Today, Brothers Ellis Graham and Stump assisted Dennis Rosenfeld in locating the final resting place of his ancestor PVT John Higgins of the 170th New York Infantry at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Buchanan, NY. Mr. Rosenfeld has several Union ancestors and hopes to join the SUVCW in the near future.

John Higgins was born in Ireland and was 38 years old when he enlisted in the 170th New York. He passed away in Verplank on April 15, 1891 at age 67.

PVT Higgins’s grave now has the GAR marker and flag he deserves to keep green the memory of his service to the preservation of our Union.

Happy Birthday to Henry Kirke Bush-Brown!
(1857-1935)

Raised in Newburgh, NY he was the adopted son of sculptor Henry Kirke Brown. Following in his father’s footsteps he too went into sculpting and became famous for creating realistic statues of famous Americans. In particular, his work on equestrian figures at the Gettysburg battlefield is quite remarkable.
