Governor Maura Healey has declared a state of emergency over rising winter energy costs in Massachusetts, highlighting the growing burden heating bills are placing on households across the state.
The Healey administration will provide an additional $15 million in winter heating assistance, supporting approximately 156,000 low-income households across Massachusetts. Current assistance ranges from approximately $525 to $1,200 per household, with the new plan increasing assistance by 20% for households that heat with oil and 15% for households that heat with utilities.
With Fuel Assistance (HEAP) applications now open, eligible low-income households can apply for help with their heating costs. HEAP supports households across Massachusetts, including working families, older adults, and many others who may be struggling with energy costs.
