Built in 1926, Schooner Adventure preserves America’s maritime and fishing heritage through sailing, education, storytelling, and hands-on experiences that connect people to Gloucester’s working waterfront and the sea. ⛵ is to:

Restore and preserve the Schooner Adventure for the enrichment of future generations and their love of the sea;

Enable the Schooner Adventure to serve as a community reso

We’ve added TWO special events to our Schooner Festival lineup on Saturday, September 5!

WATCH THE Gloucester IDRC DORY RACES ABOARD ADVENTURE!
️Saturday, September 5
Depart Harriet Webster Pier at 9:30 AM

Get a front-row seat for the International Dory Racing Championship (IDRC)! We’ll motor out from the Harriet Webster Pier at 9:30 AM and head toward the starting line for the 10 am races, putting you right in the middle of the action. Watch the races from the decks of Gloucester’s historic Schooner Adventure and experience one of the city’s great maritime traditions from the water.

SCHOONER FESTIVAL FIREWORKS SAIL Saturday, September 5
Depart at 8:00 PM | Return around 10:30–11:00 PM

Then come back Saturday night for the Schooner Festival fireworks! We’ll motor Adventure out into Gloucester Harbor for a spectacular view of the fireworks. We won’t be sailing for this event—we’ll be under power, with Adventure lit up against the night sky as we take in the show from the water.

We are so excited to participate in yet another Schooner Fest! If you're ready to come aboard and experience all that Gloucester Harbor has to offer, here are our upcoming sail opportunities during the festival:

2026 Schooner Challenge - Thu, September 3, 2026 from 5-7PM
Join our local Schooner Captains as they participate in a friendly competition putting their seamanship to the test over an "obstacle" course to win the coveted Rum Bottle Award.

2026 Greet the Fleet Public Sail - Fri, September 4, 2026 from 2:30 - 4:30 PM
View visiting vessels in historic Gloucester Harbor. Get ready as America's oldest seaport and Gloucester's beloved waterfront gear up for thrilling demonstrations and interactive fun suitable for all ages.

Schooner Fest Race Sail - Sun, September 6, 2026 from 9 AM - 4 PM

Schooner Fest is just around the corner, and Schooner Adventure is joining the celebration! We invite you to step aboard for one of our events over Labor Day weekend:

September 3 | 2026 Captains' Challenge | 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Watch local schooner captains put their seamanship to the test in a friendly competition on the water, complete with an obstacle course and the coveted Rum Bottle Award.

September 4 | Greet the Fleet Public Sail | 2:30 - 4:30 PM
Cruise through historic Gloucester Harbor, take in the visiting vessels, and enjoy the excitement leading up to Maritime Heritage Day.

September 6 | Parade of Sail & Mayor's Cup Race | 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Spend the day aboard Adventure for the Parade of Sail and Mayor's Cup Race. This 7-hour sail includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and soft drinks as you take in one of Gloucester's most spectacular maritime traditions from the water.

Bring your camera, and get ready for an unforgettable Schooner Fest weekend on the water!

Skippy was Adventure's mascot, a stray-turned-guard-dog for the ship during its fishing years. She wandered aboard in 1936 and was adopted by the crew.

"Skippy Finds Adventure" was published in 2012, documenting Skippy's story as well as the process of dory fishing. All proceeds from the book go toward keeping Adventure sailing.

Adventure turns 100 next month, and you're invited to celebrate this incredible milestone with us!

Join us for The Party on the Pier on September 16 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Harriet Webster Pier at Maritime Gloucester. This free, family-friendly celebration is open to everyone and will honor 100 years of Adventure with festivities throughout the day.

Looking for an even more memorable way to celebrate? Climb aboard for our 100th Birthday Sail from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. This special ticketed sail includes lobster rolls, nibbles, libations, and an unforgettable evening on Gloucester Harbor. When Adventure returns to the pier, we'll gather with everyone for a few final songs to close out this historic celebration.
