Each year on June 14, we honor the adoption of the American flag in 1777 — a symbol of our nation’s history, unity, freedom, and the many generations who have helped shape our country.

Flag Day is a time to reflect on the values represented by the stars and stripes: liberty, resilience, and hope. It also reminds us of the importance of community, civic pride, and coming together despite our differences.

📚 Join the Friends of the Gold Coast Library for a fascinating Author Visit featuring local author and Gold Coast patron Mary Noé!

Mary Noé — lawyer, writer, lecturer, and Professor at St. John’s University’s Collins College of Professional Studies — will discuss her compelling new book: The Man Who Shot J.P. Morgan: A Life of Arsenic, Anarchy, and Intrigue.

This captivating true crime story follows Harvard instructor Erich Muenter, who disappeared after his first wife died under suspicious circumstances. Years later, living under a new identity and teaching at Cornell University, Muenter became consumed by radical politics and anti-war beliefs — ultimately targeting financier J.P. Morgan Jr. on Long Island’s Gold Coast.

From Harvard University to the Gold Coast mansions of Long Island, this gripping presentation explores false identities, political extremism, scandal, and intrigue in pre–World War I America.

The Friends of the Gold Coast Library warmly invite you to an evening of community, conversation, and a fascinating presentation!

🗓 Wednesday, June 10, 2026
📍 Gold Coast Library Community Room

🕡 6:30 PM – Annual Meeting
🕖 7:00 PM – Special Presentation:
“Greenwich Village and How it Got That Way”

Following the meeting, architectural historian and preservationist Jane Cowan will present an illustrated slide lecture exploring the history and evolution of Greenwich Village — from a rural outpost to one of New York City’s most beloved neighborhoods. Historic maps, drawings, and paintings will bring the story to life!
