The Horse Sanctuary is a federally and locally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit, public charity established to provide safety and rehabilitation for horses who are neglected, abused or at-risk for slaughter. We provide a soft landing for horses such as the racehorse who won a lot (or nothing) on the track and was then thrown away at auction, the workhorse broke to machinery who isn’t as spry as they
once were, the young horse who has suffered physical or mental trauma, or the broodmare bred endlessly back to back. The Horse Sanctuary is a loving and peaceful home for horses who have worked tirelessly for humans only to be discarded by them when they are no longer profitable. The Horse Sanctuary does not expect anything from the horses we rescue. Instead, we give them the time they need to decompress on our farm and re-acclimate to other horses and humans. The Horse Sanctuary was inspired by Bruce, a 30 year old blind Belgian Draft horse with harness scars, dropped hind quarters and a tired body. When we rescued him, we found that Bruce was blind in both eyes, but being blind didn’t limit his abilities or dampen his spirit. His kindness and trust in humans even after a lifetime of hard work by the same hands compelled us as humans, to give back to these rescues. If you’d like to donate to the care of our rescues, your donations are appreciated, tax-deductible and can be given in the following ways:
