Friday 3/2/18 A Nor’easter rolled into the Hudson River bringing with it winds and accompanying storm surge that flooded sections of the Rockland waterfront. The USGS tide gauge on Piermont pier was knocked out by the storm when the pier was assaulted by the surge. Several barges anchored by the Mario Cuomo Bridge were knocked free from their moorings and set off down the river until emergency crews could collect them. The low lying waterfront areas of Piermont were hard hit with flooding from storm surge that was close to 2 ft. the first day and winds that were measured by HRECOS at 39 kts on the end of the Piermont pier and gusts of up to 59 kts. The storm continues to brew offshore causing additional flooding and storm surge to impact the community with Saturday and Sunday surge levels adding ~2 ft. to the expected tide.
