Red Hook High School will be closed Monday as the building is extensively cleaned following Friday’s fire.
The district has contracted with a company to clean most surfaces and items within the school, which were impacted by smoke that circulated throughout most of the building. Updates regarding when the building may be reopened and the status of Monday's planned Senior Awards ceremony will be provided in the coming days.
Families and faculty have been sent instructions for how essential items can be retrieved during a designated window from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.
The fire remains under investigation. It started in the first-floor boys bathroom off the school’s main hallway across from the library.
The fire alarm went off in the building at 10:22 a.m., triggering an evacuation of all personnel and students. An on-site Red Hook Police Department School Resource Officer responded immediately. First responder agencies arrived on the scene by 10:30, encountering smoke just beyond the main lobby. The fire was ruled under control by 10:45 a.m., though crews remained at the school ventilating smoke and evaluating the building until roughly 1 p.m.
The structural damage caused by the fire was contained to the bathroom’s two stalls and ceiling above the stalls. However, smoke circulated throughout the hallway and through the ventilation system to the second floor, necessitating the remediation of surfaces and items.
We thank the Red Hook, Tivoli, Germantown and Rhinebeck fire departments, as well as the Red Hook Police Department, for responding to the school and for their assistance.
After leaving the building, students went to Linden Avenue Middle School, from which they were dismissed at 11:15 a.m. Staff was allowed to return to the building to collect belongings shortly after 1 p.m., but the building remains closed.
We thank families and staff at both the high and middle schools for their patience and flexibility as we address this situation. We will continue to communicate updates and details as they become available.

Today, the members of the Tivoli Fire Company gathered to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten. As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we remember those who gave everything so that we may enjoy the liberties we cherish today.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the fallen heroes and their families. May we always honor their legacy and keep their memory alive.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the parade and help keep the memory of our fallen veterans alive.

🇺🇸 Never Forgotten. Forever Honored. 🇺🇸

After years of advocacy by FASNY, the NYS Assembly has passed landmark legislation increasing the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800, the first increase since the program was established nearly 20 years ago.

This legislation, S.6233-A (Sen. Martinez) / A.6790-A (MOA McMahon), also removes outdated restrictions that prevented volunteers from receiving both the state income tax credit and locally authorized property tax exemptions, delivering long-overdue support for volunteer emergency responders across New York state.

“This is a transformational moment for volunteer emergency services in New York State,” said FASNY First Vice President, Donald J. Farrell. “Quadrupling the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800 sends a powerful message that New York recognizes the critical role volunteers play in protecting communities every day.”

As volunteer departments statewide continue to face recruitment and retention challenges, the legislation represents one of the most significant investments in volunteer emergency services in decades.

The Senate is expected to advance the measure in the coming days.

After nearly 30 years of being moved around the village in different storage areas and spending some of its life living under a tarp Tivoli’s first motorized is alive!! This is all thanks to Ralph Torchia Sr. For the past couple of years we have searched the country for the parts we needed to put it all back together. In the near future we will be purchasing tires so it will be roadworthy. We can’t wait to get it back out to parades and to display the history of TFD to everyone!!

Members of Tivoli Fire Company have been busy running mutual aid calls throughout the community. At 09:38hrs we were dispatched to the scene of a structure fire in Germantown Fire district. Our interior members went to work helping to extinguish the fire while our 66-31 (tanker) setup a draft site and help supply water to other mutual aid tankers. While putting our equipment back in service Tivoli was dispatched to Red Hook for a car into a building, 66-71 (ambulance), 66-31 (tanker), & 66-55 (rescue) responded. Our EMT’s & Ambulance have been busy as well responding to multiple other incidents. Thank you to all our members for their consistent dedication to keeping our residents safe.
