Major Announcement...we finally have been able to transform a storage building into a hurricane shelter!

We've always had a place for the monkeys to go, but it was not ideal. Not only was the building actually an office, it was a bit far from the monkey yard. Just getting the monkeys transferred from their habitats to the holding cages was a nightmare!
Picture wheelbarrows and winding paths, all surrounded by loud and excited monkeys; not to mention lots of heavy lifting. The transfer cage alone is 47 pounds!!

We have now built a runway set up to come into the building from the existing habitat runways and open into the transfer cage which will sit on an adjustable table cart (more on the cart and the process soon).
The monkeys will then be rolled over to a holding cage and remain there, protected, until the storm passes. All done without having to handle the monkey.

The pictures don't do justice to how long and very tall the runway is, the building pictures aren't so hot either 😹, we'll have more, soon. **

Another thank you to the P.A.W. volunteers and Mina Rella-Hapeman , for helping us complete this major task!

Also wanted to give a long overdue THANK YOU to a wonderful friend and long time supporter to both the monkeys and humans, Wilma E Clevenger .
She gave the humans some gift cards to a local ice cream shop so we tried to complete the project first and then go celebrate......well this ended up taking a lot longer than planned BUT that ice cream is in the horizon, we've heard great reviews and can hardly wait, thank you Wilma!!!!

**Riley saw the runway, his reaction is priceless

One our favorite groups, People for Animal Wellness (P.A.W.) from UF, came out and helped us get our habitats spruced up after the cold winter season AND cleaned up our hurricane cages just in time for THAT season, more on that later!

A huge thank you to them for all their effort and help, we really appreciate it and see you in the fall!

Included a nice monkey tattoo...

So Ozzy is getting us into our Star Wars mode by explaining to us what really happened to the dinosaurs!

May the 4th be with you!

Several minutes earlier:

Us: "come on Kevin, Emily, let's go, we're headed to the Park."

Now:

Kevin: *sigh* "when y'all said the Park, I thought you meant the AMUSEMENT park! Not the Manual park." 😿 *sigh*

Us: "awwww, sorry about that."

Kevin: "why can't we go, all the cool ones get to go."

Us: *epic eye roll*, "you're not allowed."

Kevin:

Us:

Kevin: "fine"

Kevin: "hey come back and give me a push!"

Us: *grunt*

Kevin: "weeeeeeee!!"

We wanted to share a long overdue thank you to our wonderful volunteer Mina Rella-Hapeman . She has been with the KCR family for a year and 8 months!!!
Wait! Before y'all yell at us for not saying anything until now, it's because she makes us work! That whole "nose to the grindstone" stuff, she's all about it, so work goes by and we forget to take pictures 🙄

Mina is persuing a career in the veterinary field with a focus on marine wildlife. She has been accepted into Veterinary Programs at multiple universities, including UF!! It seems that "grindstone" mentality has paid off. Congratulations, Mina, we are so happy for you!!

On her bucket list, Mina wanted to swim with the manatee's, she got her wish a few weeks back, cute picture below.

Kevin and Emily have been taking full advantage of the very pleasant mornings we've been having!

These 2 are always riling up the others with their antics, turn up the sound for a sampling of chaos and that's on the tame side. Emily is completely toothless and Kevin is completely the opposite, his k9s are easily identifiable in the video.

Emily has him wrapped around her little finger and Kevin is ok with it!

*IYKYK and you said it in that voice 😁

Both monkeys are White Faced capuchins
