We’ve all felt the pain. 😩

A patient leaves, the bedside cart gets emptied, and suddenly perfectly packaged, unused supplies are headed for the trash.

But have you ever stopped to ask… what does the evidence actually say? 🤔

A recent American Journal of Critical Care article takes a closer look at this familiar practice and raises some interesting questions about the evidence behind it.

Today, we remember.

We honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the first responders, nurses, healthcare professionals, and everyday people who stepped forward to help in the moments and days that followed.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, compassion, and service remain a powerful reminder of what it means to care for one another.

AACN’s new declaration, shared so powerfully by Tonka Williams, DNP, MHA, RN, CMSRN, is more than a theme — it is a call to how we show up for one another, our patients, and our profession.

Critical care nursing is built on diverse voices, lived experiences, shared knowledge, and the courage to speak up when it matters most. When every nurse has a voice, every story is valued, and every person has a seat at the table, we create stronger teams and better outcomes.

Look around your table. Who is present? Who needs to be invited in? Whose voice needs to be heard?
