Continuing its series of timely and interesting public service announcements, The Gahanna Foundation is pleased to remind citizens that on this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified, finally granting women the right to vote. Today, we remember the generations of women who fought for the ballot and keep up their fight to make sure every eligible voter can make their voice heard.

"Get in the Game! Register ☆ Vote" is the trademarked (TM) slogan for "Democracy Challenge," the national model taking off in central Ohio.

Voter turnout is the giant, gaping weakness of passive American style democracy. Copycat junk journalism horse-race political reporter misses the forest (voter turnout) for the trees (who won and by how much)

Winners across the nation win a majority of minority turnout. More registered voters don't vote than vote. The will of the people is never realized.

TGF has dozens of virtually cost-free action steps governments and businesses and community groups can undertake to change the voting landscape.

The Gahanna Foundation has been focused on voter turnout across 15 cities in Franklin County since 2021 (see GahannaVotes and "Red, White and Blues" Fundraiser).

Why focus on voter turnout? It's the biggest issue with elections that nobody sees ir cares about. The "Will of the People" is corrupted when only a few votes vote, thats why.

Some sobering statistics (Associated Press) from recent primary elections that caught national attention:

Texas --- 12%
Wisconsin --- 22%
Michigan --- 18%

Democracy Challenge, TGF's new and novel 5-year public awareness campaign designed to boost registered voters and election participation, has already had an effect by boosting by maybe 1% voter turnout in a majority of Franklin County cities targeted for study over ten years (see chart).

Now, DC26 has given birth to "Doctors for Democracy," a super student driven "applied Democracy" project that kicks off next Thursday, the first day of the new school year.

Scooping all lazy media addicted to copycat junk journalism horse-race politics, Columbus Jewish News did some original reporting by giving its readers a great portrait of DFD, why it's needed, how it's going to work and what its goals are.

In 2026 Wisconsin has 1,552,414 registered Democratic voters. But only 50.7% of them (787,678) voted in the hotly contested race for governor that featured a so-called party establishment candidate beating the so-called Democratic Socialist candidate by about 3,000+ votes or 0.04%.

Democracy Challenge, the new and novel 5-year public awareness campaign designed to boost registered voters and election participation, has dozens of virtually cost-free action steps governments, businesses and community groups can undertake to change the voting landscape for better.

Please consider a donation of any size to help fund DFD project costs including a major scholarship reward.

Thursday, August 20th, marks the first day of classes for a new Gahanna school year.

The Gahanna Foundation has a new and exciting venture into youth civic engagement --- Doctors for Democracy (DFD).

Amyah and Sam,TGF's first two DFD, will lead the charge to educate and promote voting among their peers as a must-do civic duty once they turn 18.

They will use school communication facilities and resources to recruit more Doctors for Democracy team members.

Students who step forward to take and pass the 2026 US Citizenship Test will be entered into a drawing to win a major Gahanna Foundation Scholarship Prize. Watch this space for more scholarship news.

Doctors for Democracy is designed to further educate, motivate and inspire all students in all grades to read, learn and understand the basics of American history, from The Declaration of Independence to The Constitution to The Voting Rights Act of 1965 and beyond.

Sadly, only one-third of graduating seniors register to vote. Only half of them vote.

To help fund this new youth civic engagement project, please chip in $25 or more with a donation to The Gahanna Foundation.

PS: Columbus Jewish News broke the story! Maybe other media addicted to lazy copycat junk journalism about horse-race politics will try some original reporting for a change. You might even win a journalism award?

Mark your calendar for Mill Street Market on Sunday, September 27th.

The Gahanna Foundation will have a cool and colorful kiosk there to promote what it's done in eight short years and what it's going to engage in going forward.

Doctors of Democracy high school students from Gahanna will staff the operating. TGF merchandise --- including Tshirts, banners, city flags and more --- will be available for purchase. Proceeds flow to TGF to pay for super students stipends and DFD grand prizes.

The Gahanna Foundation has flown under the radar since its creation in 2018.

No more. We're coming out of the shadows.

The Gahanna Foundation, in its ongoing research into voter turnout, shares its unique finding that in Tuesday's nationally watched primary election for US Senator from Michigan, media focused on who won and by how much when the real story media flopped on reporting was that voter turnout was only 34%.

Sad and discouraging, like every other primary election this year, winners win a majority of minority turnout.

Statistics like this bolster
TGF's campaign to boost registered voters and election participation, dubbed Democracy Challenge, and its ready to launch applied Democracy project Doctors for Democracy are more important than ever.

Learn more about DC and DFD at www.thegahannafoundation.org, where you can help pursue these national model civic engagement initiatives by making a generous charitable donation.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Ohio's lazy media, so addicted to horse-race junk journalism, would wake up and follow the lead of Ohio's Jewish News and report on Doctors for Democracy, and its umbrella campaign, Democracy Challenge, just once, although there are a dozen solid news articles to pick from?
