Fifteen years ago people around the world sent photos of loved ones, whose life had been touched by cancer, for inclusion in our first "Faces We Remember" video. (https://youtu.be/BVkdaXbkeV0?si=zejP5_PXi2NcpIOJ)

To date we have made three (3) versions of it.

Now through August 15th we are accepting photos (.png/.jpeg) of loved ones whose life has been touched by cancer for inclusion. Please send photos to [email protected] with Video in the subject line.

For any questions please DM Mary Jenkins.

Note: We do not own the rights to the video music.

It was 19 yrs ago that our founder, Mary Jenkins, a black, single mother of three, was diagnosed with stage III almost stage IV breast cancer - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Triple Negative. Soon after starting chemotherapy she was laid off work. During this time she volunteered with Komen Columbus with plans to become the local face of the organization.

As time passed she exhausted her savings and found herself in need of help to pay her household bills. She reached out to Komen Columbus and learned that although they offer great support services, they didn't offer the support she needed. Unable to find the help she needed she turned to her church who thankfully came to her aid. Through this experience Ms. Mary knew she wasn't alone in needing help and decided to do something about it.

We are the result of her experience.

We share this article to make others aware of the disparity in survival rates between cancer patients of different races.

Thank you Komen for the work you're doing to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease.

Komen is raising concerns over new data released today showing that Black women in the U.S. continue to die at disproportionately higher rates from breast cancer, underscoring the urgent need for change. Data from the American Cancer Society highlights a critical crisis: despite overall lower breast cancer incidence rates, Black women face a nearly 40% higher mortality rate over white women—a stark disparity driven not only by biology, but by systemic inequities in health care, quality of care and social determinants of health.

“Black women are dying at higher rates than white women because systemic failures affect them at every stage of their breast cancer care,” said Paula Schneider, president and CEO Komen. “However, solutions do exist to improve quality of care, remove barriers to access, reduce costs, and address inequities and bias that drive disparities in outcomes. We must unite to create a health equity movement that saves lives."
