VFW Post 1860

VFW Post 1860 On June 5, 1930, a post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars was formed in Front Royal, VA. The new Post was instituted by Russell L. Samuel R.

A delegation of officers and members from the Harrisonburg Post of the VFW assembled for the occasion. Stultz, Department Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The Front Royal Post was named Col. Millar Post No. 1860, in honor of this distinguished veteran and civic leader. The Harrison News Record paid this tribute on that date,

“No greater thing can be established as a

memorial to anyone than this organization of men who have served the Stars and stripes in foreign fields, and no greater character could have been found to be the guiding star of an organization than that of Colonel Samuel R. Millar.”

“May the organization keep fresh in the minds of it’s members and in the minds of others the wonderful traits of the one in whose memory it was organized.”

Post 1860 Member and Family,

As I had mentioned in previous meeting notes and other e-mail blasts, Ms. Lauren E. Anthony won our Post Voice of Democracy contest.

Lauren went on to win the District 7 Top prize and she finished in an incredible 2nd place at the Virginia State VFW competition. Truly a wonderful accomplishment!

We invited Ms. Lauren and her family to our post home on 21 Feb 2026 to present her award winning gift/essay. Her mother, Erin, and her father, David, were proudly beside her for her presentation.

I have included an audio file of Lauren's essay and a couple of pictures I snapped of the proud family. I am working to find a way to share a video taken and shared by Lauren's mother, Erin. The file size is my challenge.

Lauren did a wonderful job! Enjoy!

Commander Jeff Cook accepts a very generous donation from Jeff Kelble during our December 2025 meeting. Jeff "K" purchased our River Front property and he has honorably continued his support to Veterans of Foreign Wars without fail!

Thank you Jeff K!

Post 1860 members, family and friends,

We are rapidly approaching a Grand Opening date. We are working our permits, our final repairs and our improvements. Until those are secured and in-hand, we are limited on supportable activities.

In short, we are not approved yet for food preparation or sales, adult beverage sales nor the usual VFW Post cadre of services.

We are able to hold our membership meeting on the 3rd, Saturday of every month @ 1100 hours. However, due to repairs and on-going construction, we are limited in what we can provide to members and our community.

We have received an increasing number of requests to rent or donate our post space for outside functions for the Holidays. Sadly, we are so close, but we cannot entertain those at present.

Post 1860 will advise if/when we can support such activities. Please check back with us in 1st quarter 2026 and thank you for your interest!

A milestone is a milestone! Another "to do" was picked off on our way to reopening!

Following our membership meeting last Saturday, 18th, one of our 7 new members, James Couls, stepped up and said "I got this"!

James worked his tail off until dark that day constructing the new Patio furniture. James returned bright and early Sunday morning (saw him on your new security system) and he finished assembly of all the sets.

James even tackled and finished the new storage cabinet to be used for our Coca Cola products. James really stepped up, he helped out where needed and he offered his help when least expected! Well done James and my/our sincere thanks!

A huge shout out and heartfelt thank you to Maxi & Mike Kohrt and Andi & Geoff White! These two loving and kind couples generously researched, planned, purchased and donated the new outdoor furniture and new storage cabinet! Heck, I think they may have started the assembly as well. This isn't the only donation/assistance by these couples!

Acts of kindness like these are coming forward more and more frequently. They deserve our recognition and they deserve our acknowledgement! In the of simplest terms, their acts of kindness are helping ensure our funds are directed to towards large expenditures, giving us a better chance of long term success/sustainment!

Lastly, attached are pix of this awesome patio furniture. The specific arrangement needs a "Lady's Touch"! After electric repairs, outdoor lights are coming and will be strung above for warm, inviting vibe! Perhaps some patio spot heaters and other goodies to be announced soon will follow! Stayed tuned!

We are making the effort to make you proud after 10 years of wait!
