Go Team Therapy Dogs Frederick Our special volunteers serve in a wide variety of settings including assisted living homes, libraries, schools, airports & hospitals.

Teams provide help to victims in distress, work w/our servicemen, 1st responders, & anywhere a therapy dog is needed. The Go Team is a non-profit organization based out of Colorado that is dedicated to bringing caring, compassionate canines anywhere a therapy dog is needed. Each dog must be well trained, be evaluated and recommended by a Sit Means Sit trainer before applying for the Go Team. Each

canine candidate must pass their Canine Good Citizen test followed by a very intense two day testing & training program with the Go Team master trainer. During the testing, each dog must pass the their Canine Good Citizen Advanced and Canine Good Citizen Urban tests.

So, you think your dog may be a good fitā€¦ whatā€™s next?

Before joining our training program, there are a few important requirements that both dogs and handlers must meet. These guidelines help ensure that our teams are prepared to safely and confidently represent Go Team Therapy Dogs while visiting throughout our community.

To get started, your dog must:

āœ”ļø Be at least one year old when our GO TEAM class begins
āœ”ļø Have passed an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test(more on this tomorrow)
āœ”ļø Not be reactive toward people or other dogs
āœ”ļø Pass an Evaluation Walk alongside their handler

These requirements help us identify dogs who have the foundation and temperament needed for therapy work. And rememberā€”this isnā€™t about perfection! Our training program is designed to help prepare and guide both you and your dog for the meaningful work ahead. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

šŸ¾ DAY 2: What Makes a Great Therapy Dog? šŸ¾

One of the questions we hear most often from people interested in joining our team is, ā€œWould my dog make a good therapy dog?ā€

The great thing about therapy dogs is that they come in all shapes, sizes, breeds, and backgrounds! Your dog can be purebred, mixed breed, a rescue, or a dog youā€™ve raised from a puppy. What matters most isnā€™t their breed or where they came fromā€”itā€™s their temperament and enjoyment of connecting with people. ā¤ļø

A great therapy dog is friendly, confident, calm, and able to remain focused despite distractions. They should enjoy meeting new people, being handled and petted, and most importantlyā€¦ they should truly enjoy the work!

Therapy dog work isnā€™t about having a perfectly trained dog or knowing a long list of fancy tricks. Itā€™s about having a dog with the right temperament and a genuine desire to bring comfort, connection, and smiles to others.

Zoey, Izzy, Brady, and Giuseppe were honored to be joined by Diego, FCCā€™s facility dog, as they provided comfort and companionship to those attending the ā€œRemembering Love, Restoring Hopeā€ vigil at the Kussmaul Theater on Wednesday. Latte, Brady, Giuseppe, Joey, Otis, Zipper, and Brutus had the sweetest time greeting the incoming freshmen at Mount St. Mary's University! From happy tail wags to lots of puppy snuggles, these furry ambassadors were ready to make everyone feel right at home.
