This science cited in this Substack post by Dr. Caroline Leaf helps MINDCAP beautifully explain the efficacy of one of the Feuerstein tools we use with some clients: Identify Emotions.

Forced positivity prolongs the very feeling it's trying to bury. Putting the emotion into words measurably settles the alarm, here's the exact move.

The Feuerstein method of mediated learning that our team uses at The MINDCAP Center can be applied to the learning and mastery of any content.

That fact explains why our director, Greta, just agreed to tackle an MIT open courseware class on Differential Equations with one of our adult clients.

Mediators don't need to know all of the answers to mediate well;
they just need to understand what cognitive processes they must help their clients learn to employ. 😅

Anything can be mediated.

Well trained mediators understand how to use any task to teach the art of self-mediation.

If you’ve struggled to understand what MINDCAP mediators mean when they talk about projecting virtual relationships, here’s an example of that cognitive function applied in real life:

A 13 year old sibling of one of MINDCAP’s mediatees had fun this weekend as he realized he could assign unique binary labels to pieces from the Quarto game his family had checked out of MINDCAP’s lending library.

At first glance it wouldn’t seem obvious that wooden game pieces would bring to mind the idea of binary code. At the conceptual level, though, binary relationships can be projected as an individual discovers that there are four characteristics for each game piece that have only two options each:
1. Color- light or dark
2. Height- tall or short
3. Shape- square or circular
4. Fill- solid or hole

Life definitely becomes richer when people have the ability to project virtual relationships, doesn’t it! Individuals who are strong in their ability to project virtual relationships become our world’s inventors and entrepreneurs.

Reach out to us at MINDCAP if you or your loved one needs help in developing this important skill.

The risk of pessimism is no less than the risk of optimism, and perhaps even greater. Pessimism leads to paralysis and inaction. Optimism
leads to effort and engagement. True, it may not always yield the hoped for results, but without effort, there is no chance at all.
-Rabbi Dr Refael Feuerstein

“He (Professor Feuerstein) saw that the first recipient of faith in modifiability had to be the parents. Those exhausted, skeptical mothers and fathers who stopped believing in their children and fell into a kind of paralysis. He understood that the key to change lies with them. On the one side they are surrounded by professionals urging them to accept the child “as he is.” On the other side, deep inside, they sense that their child can achieve far more.

Already then, Father knew: the more a teacher or parent believes a child can change—and believes in his or her own power to help bring that change about—the more likely the transformation will happen.”
